The dirt road Matthews at a weir during 2 hour acequia road ride just now. The Matthews is in pumpkin camouflage mode.

The sandy roads are firmer thanks to very belated monsoon/post-monsoon showers.

When thou didst not, savage, know thine own meaning,

But wouldst gabble like a thing most brutish,

I endowed thy purposes with words that made them known.

I forgot to add that the Thunderburts on this wheelset at about 54 mm at 18 psi on Blunt SS rims feel smoother over bumps than the much lighter (360 vs 540 grams) and supposedly very supple 49 mm Soma Supple Vitesse SLs  at ~20, and roll on pavement just about as well — at least, I revert to the same gears. They also resist thorn flats much, much better than the Somas, both with 2-3 fl oz of OS Endurance. The sole virtue of the Somas is that their rounded profile makes the bike feel like my erstwhile Ram in pavement corners, while the square Thunderburts with side knobs start to turn in normally, then dive slightly past the apex. I think that the Oracle Ridges would be the best of all worlds, but those require tubes; I might buy another pair and use them with TPU tubes and sealant.

That’s right. I rode to Paseo, took ditchbank trails to Los Poblanos, rode about there, then rode north a mile or so to do an errand, then rode back to Los Poblanos, then south on along the Griegos Drain, rambled around some neighborhoods, then went a bit West and took Duranes back to Montano.

I’m sorry, I wasn’t thinking. I did ride the route just described, but this weir was further north, about a mile south of Paseo just as the trail branches East to go to Los Poblanos, on an unamed (at least on G Maps) trail to the East of the acequia that itself is just East of the Paseo del Bosque trail. Duranes Lateral starts further south and a bit to the West.

I live near Coors and Montano, rode to the Paseo del Norte trail, then caught this ditch just South of PdN.

Aside: my memory is a bit of a sieve when it comes to routes, especially irregular and rambling ones like the network of ditchbank trails. And I find it very awkward to follow routes on Google Maps — I generally translate GM routes into paper instructions for clarity; paper maps are much easier to follow. Do others find this as well?

The upside of this is that I continually forget and discover once again trails that I’ve ridden scores of times over the years, so I’m easy to please.

One more remark and I’ll shut up: Tyler: perhaps you can refresh my memory: am I correct in thinking that Duranes Lateral continues South to and past I-40? I almost sure I’ve ridden it to I-40, but Google Maps shows it continuing much further South. Have you followed it South of I-40? Is getting past the freeway relatively uncomplicated? Is the riding on DL South of the fw good riding? And lastly, any idea how far you can follow it?

I should undertake a systematic (shudder) exploration of the main ditchbank routes — even the main routes, mappable by Google, must extend for scores of miles within the city limits.
