The Sam is finally here!

I have to say, it was well worth the wait.  It is an absolute blast to ride.  The Dureme tires are so smooth.  The bike feels totally stable at all times, even when I am cruising

More pics to follow, just wanted to get some up to share the joy of my first Rivendell.  Many thanks to Keven et. al for all the help.

Great stuff.

You could have used the third top tube option on that one!

it does end the "big guy on a little bike" thing for me, forever.

That color is FANTASTIC!  Love the dark midnight blue with the white.  Just fan-tas-tic...

The bag is making the bike look smaller!

Beauty.  I like the color combo, the way it picks up the sun at just the right angle.  The fenders make it look sharp, nice selection (Berthoud?) The line is clean and true also.  Nice job.  What size tires are you running under dem tings?

I hope you ride it and enjoy it for a long time to come.  Please continue to share bicycle photos and adventures with us.

They are indeed Berthouds, the 50mm.  I am running the 40mm duremes.

Setting these up was a two day affair.  It was like trying to solve a puzzle that I was not any good at (like the first time you try a crossword).  I had to take a hacksaw to the rear fender to get it in between the chainstays.  I decided to get the Berthouds instead of having riv install the longboards, and wish that I had gone the latter route (although they do look awesome).

Now I know more about installing stainless fenders though, so there is that.  They aren't rattling, so that's good, and they do look great now that they are installed, it was just a serious pain.

Just got back from a two hour ride, the biggest difference in this bike and every other bike I have ever owned is my arms, neck, and back aren't tired before my legs are.  What a blessing that is.  More stories to follow for sure.

That is a beautiful build of a beautiful bike. Do things literally leap from the path of that E3's beam?

Pretty as I find the "stock" Hillbornes, they do look better with a contrast-y head tube.

Regarding your bags, however...

Until now I had completely gotten over the fact that I no longer have a SaddleSack Large.

I mean, my SaddleSack Medium is the right bag for me anyhow. It has lots of room. It has side pockets I can reach while in the saddle.

It is nice to carry by my Nitto bag grip. It is more balanced than the SaddleSack Large.

But...

I did always put my phone in one of the rider-facing pockets. I did always keep a balaclava in the other.

I do sometimes have to stuff and force-pack my Medium with a book. lunch, clothes, shoes, and laptop.

On weekends with the Large I could just toss my cooking or coffee gear into its massive maw without having to shuffle or re-organize anything.

And it wasn't that hard to carry for my brief walk to the office....

Thanks, Zack. Thanks a lot. :)

Yours,
Thomas Lynn Skean

Sorry Thomas, I was not intending to create intense pangs of bag envy :-)

Irish strap definitely livens things up.
