This is an as-new 14 year old bike set up as well as I could imagine for general road riding and light touring in complete comfort, and in the style of the French constructeurs such as Alex Singer and Rene Hersé.
I purchased the frame new in 2003 at Walnut Creek shortly following an orthopedic injury. The injury prevented me from riding the bike after the 2003 Seattle to Portland ride. I set the bike up with the finest components of the day. A short shakedown ride recently reminds me that the bike is perfect embodiment of what was intended.
I hate to part with it, but perhaps someone else will appreciate an early production 2003 Rivendell Rambouillet frame (with the desirable "pointy lugs", pearl orange paint, and riveted brass-cloisonné head tube badge). The Japanese hand made (Toyo) frame equals the custom domestic builders. Notice the details on the frame - best appreciated in person. The components are top quality to include the French Simplex Super LJ front derailleur (branded Edco), the Ritchey triple crank 46/36/26 (big ring is a French TA ring), the Dura Ace hubs, and 9-speed bar end shifters, Campy seatpost plus XT rear derailleur, and XTR titanium 12-32 9-speed cluster. The French Mavic Open Pro rims and Dura Ace wheelset are hand made. And the Compass Grand Bois 700/28 tires have the most supple casings available on clincher tires. Lots of room for fenders.
This is a fine bicycle with no disappointments for the buyer. It appears to be the best Rambouillet available currently on the internet. It has been stored in a heated basement and never ridden in the rain.
It is the bike I wished to ride for decades but fate presents that opportunity to another person who appreciates a fine bike.
Frame and parts cost me $3000 in today's money. $1700.
Thank you for your consideration.
