I've updated my shop site:

http://shop.synapticcycles.com/

We have jerseys and wind vests on sale. Additionally, we have all new wool caps, with and without earflaps, cotton caps, and some limited moisture wicking caps. All are made in the US by Walz Caps. Additionally, we are offering free shipping on all clothing items for a limited time.

Thanks,

Joe

An unsolicited puff: The short bill, ear-flapp'd, woolen caps are the bees' pyjamas. Just got myself one and it's nicer than my Caroline Plaquette custom woolen earflap cap. Cheaper, too.

Speaking of wind vests: is there anything like a cycling wind dickey that you can simply shove under your jersey like a newspaper, but reusable? I should think a good one would be a bit stiffish to make said shoving easier, but not too stiff so that it can fold nicely into a small bundle for a rear pocket.

Ideas for design, material? I would think that it would need no attachment hardware  and that it ought to be something other than plastic so that it wouldn't feel icky (tech term) against bare skin.

I rode today in blustery mid 40s with just a Wabi jersey, but could have used such a newspaper substitute at times.

didn't rivendell have something called the "lobster bib"...?

Or a wind vest?

The Riv item is too complex and too expensive, ditto in spades for a wind vest. I want a higher tech piece of newspaper that I can shove in and pull out without having to put anything around my neck.

I should add that vests are a big part of my winter wardrobe, both on- and off-bike; at 40F or so I'll add a vest to a wool jersey. But these don't fit the need I described.

Okay, how about a custom cut piece of bubble wrap or 2 mil garbage bag?

That made me laugh, since I'd thought it was a minimally complex piece
of kit, but then I realized you were right.

FedEx envelope? I think the big tyvek ones would work pretty well. I'm
going to try it, anyway. If you need wider or longer, you can slice it
open creatively to make a single-layer double-sized shield.

I think the 18 to 24 ish inch square piece of cotton canvas otherwise known as a burrito wrap would be perfect. At 3 bucks it's in your wheelhouse, price wise, too. Cut and customize to your no-longer-wind-chilled hearts content!

That's exactly what I was thinking, a layer or two of tyvek sewn to a layer of flannel. Shouldn't take more than 10 minutes to whip one out on a sewing machine...

It pays to ask even stupid questions! You reminded me that I have various bits of old burrito wrap lying around; unfortunately, my only scrap of the old, heavier brown stuff is too narrow to work well, but I do have a full piece of the newer grey. Problem solved!

I like the tyvek idea, too.
