How'd you do on your 2011 goals?  I used the search function to find my post for my 2011 goals.  The list was:

1.  Do my first 200k brevet
2.  Do another 200k brevet
3.  Do a 200k brevet in under 10 hours
4.  Do a 300k brevet
5.  Set up the garage as a proper workshop
6.  4 S24Os
7.  Ride more with the wife and kids
8.  Ride to work at least once a week
9.  Ride to and from work at least once a month
10.  Do one overnight night ride

I did 1,2,3, and 4.  I give myself partial credit for 5, 6, 7, and 8.  I didn't do anything to accomplish 9 or 10.  As usual, I picked up several My 2012 list is shaping up to something like this:

1.  Extend my R12 to R24
2.  First 400k
3.  First 600k
4.  Brevet on 7 different bikes
5.  Do a brevet out of state
6.  4 S24Os
7.  Ride more with the wife and kids

Number 4 is a little weird I confess, but I'm serious about it.  What are your 2012 goals?

Hmmm. "Goals."

I'm not a goal oriented guy, so my "goal" will be about the same: have fun riding my bike.

My bike related goals for 2012 involve adventures I've been scheming on...

Do a proper s24o
-- I've driven to places and ridden the bike along a closed road to camp. I've done backpacking trips that had bicycle segments to speed a road walk, but never a proper s24o riding from my garage to a local camping spot.

Do some sort of mini-tour/ s96o ride to/from/along the OR Coast.
-- The house I grew up in was 3 miles via MUP to the sandy beaches of Huntington and Newport Beaches in Orange County, CA.  Then I lived in Seattle for 10 years... never more than a couple miles from Puget Sound. In both those places I frequently rode my bike to the sea shore. This past fall, my wife, children and I moved to Portland, OR. There's a lot of water around but without salt in the air I sort of feel land locked. We're about 2 miles from a nice little park/beach on the Willamette River, but it's not saltwater. It's not the same. I've been researching options to bike to/from/along the coast.

cheers, Smitty

1) Survive tomorrow's off the couch 200k permanent.
2) Complete another Super Randonneur series.
3) Earn R70 "honors" by complete all SR qualifying brevets in 70% of
the allotted time. I've managed this with everything but the 600k. It
may not be possible. If you're curious what I'm talking about see
this: http://cyclosmontagnards.org/R80Rules.html
4) Ride a Fleche.
5) Ride the Cascade 1200k if I can. Currently it conflicts with a
family vacation.
6) Do some overnight camping this summer.
7) Thee day solo mini tour.
8) I'd love to complete a Cyclos Montagnards Challenge this summer
with my friend Joshua. We've talked about it a lot but it might just
be something beyond my abilities. The fleche and this year's 600k will
be a good test for that.
9) Ride my bike and have fun in-between completing these goals.
10) Maybe this year I'll finally build a wheel.

In case anyone is wondering what a Cyclos Montagnards Challenge is see
this link: http://cyclosmontagnards.org/Rules.html

I've been talking about doing this for years. Like I said, I think it
might be beyond my abilities.

Lost some fat weight......that was my goal for 2011.....went from 282
to 257. All doing it the Grok way 90% of the time.....meat and
vegetables. No sugar, no grains and no hard core consistent exercise
to speak of.
My goal for this year....drop 30 more and not compromise as often.
I do ride my bicycle but never more than 50 miles and usually between
1 and 30 with a regular 8.5 mile route. I don't believe exercise to be
the biggie here.... important but probably only accounts for 20% with
maybe 70% food choices and 10% proper sleep and stress reduction.
Bicycle goals, build a cargo bicycle....sell a few bicycles, ride a
little more consistent because I enjoy it. Try some overnight bicycle
camping trips.

Well, let's see....
1. Do this weeks 200k and enjoy it. 10-11 hours would be good.
2. Back in CT, do some events from the Berkshire,Boston, and VT Brevet series.
3. Get more embedded with this crowd. It will be much easier to be consistent if I can do this. However, I still find a low tolerance out there for breaking into cliques. People still treat their rides like they are prepping for the Tour, and while I like riding hard, I also like taking pics, and being able to look around. I already have a job, this is a way of offsetting the work experience.
4.  Maintain good form but have fun doing it.
5. Do the Farmlands Century in NJ,
6. Sign up for Adventure Cycling C&O Canal tour next Sept.
7. Attend the Riv Rally in PA.
8. Ride TFCE in RI.
9. Wander around VT a bit, as well as central MA.
10.  Maybe do the D2R2.
11. Drop maybe 10-15 more lbs.

Whew!

Hmmm... I had to dig up my 2011 goals, and to my surprise I actually
hit a few:

- Hosting Riv Rally East, May 6-8 in Wellsboro PA - DONE
- Renaissancing his and hers Gazelle Sport Luxe bicycles, converting
from single speed coaster to 3 speed drum-brake. Hers DONE, His
ALMOST DONE
- Renaissancing (with period parts) an early 1983 (Tim Neenan)
StumpJumper - DONE (and donated to a good friend in Healdsburg CA)
- Resurrecting a dormant, once-renaissanced 1985 Rockhopper - DONE
- Converting my 1986 Nishiki Prestige SS to both a 2-speed version and
a fully-geared version... Fully geared DONE, 2-speed still working on

There were a few other windfall goals:
- Rode my Bomba in the NYC 5-Boro Tour
- Did an awesome 4-day credit card tour of Cape Cod and Martha's
Vineyard
- Built up and sold a few bikes
- Built up a killer touring bike (from an old Schwinn Cimarron)
- Laced up half a dozen wheels
- Built up a truly awesome steel rigid 29er MTB
- Renaissanced (and sold) a really cool Argentinian racer/SS/fixie
- I finally scored my long-awaited BMW motorcycle (hey, that's bike-
related, right???)

2012 Modest Goals
- At least 2 S24O rides
- Host Riv Rally East 2012 (New England??)
- Do a multi-day credit card tour ride on the Great Allegheny Passage
Trail in PA (hopefully via Amtrak roll-on/roll-off bike service on the
Capitol Limited train)
- Sell a few more bikes (reduce the herd)
- Finish up Gazelle project and Nishiki 2-speed
- Get my son (and daughter) off to college, sell house, move, and
establish new bike workshop/man cave!!! (that's a BIGGIE)

Happy 2012 to all.

I'm not usually one for new year's resolutions, but since I was fairly successful at my one resolution in 2011 (non-bike-related, it was simply to eat oatmeal for breakfast more consistently), i thought i'd try a couple of modest ones this year.

-One is to keep track of my riding a bit more.  I've never really liked riding with an odometer, and I'm trying to think less about distance and more about consistency, so counting miles or km isn't really good for me.  Instead, i've decided to try to keep a logbook, like the ones all pilots use to keep track of their flight hours.  I'm not being incredibly exacting about anything, just writing down the date of the ride and about how long I was out, a description of where I went, and how I was feeling in general.
-Related to this is to try to ride--any distance--180 days out of the year (in the non-bike related realm I'd also like to write something at least 180 days as well).

Other than that, even without resolutions, it will to be a pretty big year for me.  I'm getting married in July, and I'm also working on developing a research project for my PhD dissertation that I'm pretty excited about.

Here's to it!

I try to make my resolutions fun, things I want to do, and the resolution act says to me, "do it full on!" So my resolution right now is to get the rigid Niner built with as much silver as possible and with all the parts I like and not to put on compromises just because those are the norms in mountain biking.

Riv-related content: the build will have:

- Paul thumbies and shifters that I bought from Rivendell, 9-speed rear and friction front

- The Sugino XD crank that Rivendell has made me aware of and that I bought from them

- Some kind of medium Rivendell saddlebag hanging from the belooped saddle

- A steel rigid fork (from Niner, not Carbonomas but in that spirit)

- Albatross, do I dare? (I wish there was a threadless bullmoose.)

I'll post photos when it's done and hopefully be able to take it on the next So CA Riv Ride.

Goal #1 is accomplished. I finished in 10hrs 46min, that's the slowest
200k I've ever done but seemed to be the hardest with a fair amount of
climbing, rain, wind, rainbows, and a fantastic dirt descent towards
the end. Unfortunately I earned some bonus kilometers by missing a
turn and was delayed twice by the same train which seemed to be
entirely too long. I'll probably post pictures and a little write up
over on the Randon group tomorrow. I love randonneuring. I feel like
it's the type of cycling I was always looking for, challenging but
nowhere near as stressful as racing.

Some of my non-cycling related goals for this year include reading
some books I've always meant to but just haven't gotten around to
reading--Moby Dick, Infinite Jest, Les Miserables. We'll see.

Well, I apparently suck at goal-achieving, or I did last year anyway. I didn't hit any of my goals for last year. The weather in Seattle was not cooperative, nor was the economy. Spent way too much time trying to find more work. Maslow's pyramid of needs.... Well, my son and I did ride on the John Wayne Trail one day. And I did acquire a repair stand--and wow--I should have done that years ago. And an rSogn frame was delivered to my door, though it was sent back because it was the wrong size.

Hopefully the rSogn, S24Os with the boy, and multi-modal camping trips will happen this year. I'm going to skip the STP and see about doing a short tour with my friends on the Oregon Coast instead.

I did ride my Saluki to work almost every day, year 'round. Only an 8-mile round trip, but a really nice part of my day.

Don't have much in the way of goals for this year. At least bike
related ones.
1. Do an S24O. Time slipped away last year. Hopefully this year.
2. See if I can go a full year without buying and/or selling a bike.
Hoped to do that last year, but didn't work out. At all. Try again.
3. Wag more, bark less. Yeah, not specifically bike related, but I
need to work on being less of a jerk.

I replied to the list in case anyone else is in the market for a

Do yourself a favor: Skip infinite jest entirely and go see Les
Miserables performed somewhere good.

There are also some wonderful graphic novel adaptations of moby dick.

Not all the 'classics' are worth bothering with.
