Sounds amazing! i'd be extremely interested in a lot of this stuff (as I am sure many here would).

Good Morning,
Thought I would ask for your advice regarding my extensive cycling library which I wish to disperse...not the right term but accurate. Countless bios, maintenance,  Rough Stuff , Jobst fictions and Graham Watson photography tomes , etc.plus full sets of Rouleur magazine volumes #1-19. Many purchased new or through used book sites as well as thrift store discoveries. Have used and read all many times over. .  Have pics but didn't want to hog upspace. Postage on interested party.
Appreciate any thoughts you would care to offer?
Best

Agreed, sounds like a great collection. Post pics! Are you wanting to move the whole thing as one lot? Where are you located? And are you willing to ship? (Would open up more candidates for re-homing, but would add a logistical step for you.)

Hey Joe,

I think the local library is the perfect place for such a fine collection. Well done!

Now, I just need to get a library card for said library.

Cheers, John

Sadly his local library will likely not put many, if any,  of his great books into their collection. If they have a yearly book sale they'll end up there -- and if they don't sell they'll likely be recycled -- gone forever.    :(

I served for a decade on our local library board -- the reality is that niche collections like these just do not fit with the mission of most public libraries, and they don't have the manpower or space to keep them. It's the easiest way to get rid of them for the donor (and I completely understand that desire!), but it means they'll most likely not be passed on to those who will enjoy them.  I saw this happen repeatedly. It's too bad.

I have a close friend who works at the local library and sadly that is 100% true

Yeah, I agree.  Our local library has gone through numerous reorganizations of material in recent years and now IMO it's become pretty worthless.  I happen to a reader of SF publications and they moved all of that to a different place and then sold almost all of the legendary "golden era" books for no particularly good reason.  Now those same shelves sit little more than 20% full.  Why, oh why!?  Because nowadays all of their emphasis has been on digital stuff including the children's section.  I guess I'm getting to be too old to appreciate this shift, but I feel sorry for those children who are now content to be blasted with video presentations of anything and everything.  There are many, many lost treasures, as the previous poster says, that will never be reclaimed this side of whatever.

The thing EVERYONE wants is a local cyclist's reading room.

The local cyclist's reading room is a short bike ride away from wherever you are.  It is open 24/7/365, is never crowded, and is always warm and comfortable.  All possible cycling publications are on the well organized shelves and are very easy to find and browse through.  There is ample comfortable space to flip through as many things as one wants, and attentive staff will put everything away when people are done browsing.  Anything and everything on the shelves is free to take, and the attentive staff will put another copy of the same item back on the shelf to replace what is taken.

Donation to the cyclist's reading room is similarly easy because the friendly and attentive staff will happily provide free pickups to all donors.

It would make everyone happy!  All we need is a benefactor to make it happen.

@ Bill, heh. Here in the Western Chicago burbs we actually have a thing such as you describe, sorta.  Various people along neighborhood streets now have little pedestals of books available for whoever might want to read them.  It'd be a short leap to do the same thing with cycling literature letting potential readers know about the listings at your location via social media.  It could work!

Little Free Libraries have three things in common with local cyclist's reading room.  1. a short bike ride away  2. take what you want.  3. accessible 24/7/365.
