Anyone out there have a 1994 MB-1 or mid 80's Stumpjumper they want to
sell. I know its a long
shot, but giving it a try. 22"or 23" frame. Thanks, Mike

I have neither, but I'm curious what your goal is -- these bikes are
very different. The first generation stumpjumpers are super slack,
long chainstay, ultra turds with "specialized touring" steel. The 94
MB1 is much steeper, super climber, fancy tubing, much faster
handling.

Close - There were two small MB-zips and an MB-2 on sfbay Craigslist
recently.
I tried to get my friend to get one, but he thought a 19" mtb was too
big for him. I mailed him a packet of Riv Kool-Ade, though, so he
should start regretting having passed up the MB-2 any minute now...

I don't know how much you want to spend or if you would want to get
something shipped, but I saw this on Chicago cl this morning:

The size isn't stated, but it looks like it may be around what you are
looking for and appears to be in really good shape.

I had an '86 Stumpjumper: http://www.flickr.com/photos/30684316@N08/3921989102/

It looked so cool and rode so bad.

Yup. Although I want to say it may be a 1983. Want to say the '82
still had Tommaselli brake levers.

That was the 2nd Stumpy I owned. After the first (1984 model) was
stolen. Miss it, but it was rusted away where this was is starting to
rust.

If you want the more modern bike like the Bridgestone, looks like
Handsome Cycles is doing a reproduction of the XO-1

I'll add my plaintive whine to this thread: John and Ryan are quite
right. I've owned a couple early to mid '80s mountain bikes and they
are royal dogs for most riding; perhaps they have their advantages but
I've not been in a situation to discover them.

OTOH, the early '90s Stumpjumpers -- I owned a '90 S Comp and a '91 S
Team, both steel, the latter nice Prestige -- were very nice all round
bikes. I road-ified my '91 as a commuter.
