What a grand day - I'm sure there will be a few more images (I know
that Manny was snapping away) - An impromptu gathering took place
while Grant P. hung out at the Warming Hut on Crissy Field and signed
books. Against the west wall of the building (mostly), grizzled and
new Rivendellians got a chance to meet and greet, oogle and drool
before we headed out on a Manny-led loop.

Though I had to peel off and head homeward before the gang finished
(and who knows, they _could_ still be out there trail-finding and
encouraging each other onward...), but got a chance to meet a number
of list members in the flesh. Good times.

Yep. Photos -

Help out if you know a bike's owner or nameless rider.

Thanks to Manny for wrangling the ride, GP for giving us such an
excellent reason to congregate and everyone who showed, either in
spirit or in person!

Fun day.
Grant's book signing at the Warming Hut was greeted by amazing weather and amazing bikes with amazing people. Glad I got to drag Grant along on this trip. It's kinda hard to plan a ride like this for people I don't know. So I figured I would just do a ride and if people wanted to follow that would be great. I already knew I didn't want to ride Tam that day. Despite the nice weather along the coast I knew riding more inland it would get uncomfortable or even down right miserable. At any point no ride should be like that. Unless you want it to be. And for this nice day with these great people it didn't seem like it was really necessary to go on a epic river crossing ride. (not like there is any epic river crossing around San Francisco) or dry dirt hill climbing. Opt for a tourist route of seeing the best of San Francisco. Riding over the bridge>into Marin Headlands> By some beach>Up some hill with bunkers> back over the bridge. Most of the route was kinda made up on the spot. Thanks for everyone that followed me (err dealt with my lack of route making skills). After we got over the bridge some people branched off to do their own thing including Grant himself. Kinda made me nervous about him getting back to Bart when he asked the question, "I can get to Bart by going this way right?" I'm pretty sure he made it to Bart. The ride continued passed the bridge> pass Robin William's house> pass the Legion of Honor>  down some stairs> pass Ocean's Beach> into Golden Gate Park. Here the ride finished with Ice cream in the park. Fun ride amazing people, great looking day. Thanks to everyone that came out. Oh yea thanks to Grant for make a book about bike riding, then having a book signing for the book about bike riding, then coming along for the bike ride after the book signing for his book about bike riding.

Pictures proved that it happened:

Thanks again Manny! That was a fine outing. Well met and well led.

Since the pix I shot were in a different thread, here's the link -

Thanks to Manny for fine ride leadership, and thanks to Manny and Jim for the pictures!

Grant was at a table with a pile of books, and riders would go inside and talk to him for a little while, and then come back out and ogle bikes, and generally geek out on things like the cool dark blue painted Hilborne, or the anodized Eno cranks on the Simpleone.

Some of us discussed a fixed-gear/SS ride so the QB's and Simpleone's can gather. Look for a posting soon, I hope.

That was my first free weekend in quite a while. Very good day. Thank
you for the great ride Manny. Here are a few more pictures. I left
the camera at home so I used the phone.
