Clem L... Awesome Handicapped Edition !!

Hello Everyone.

I promised Grant a photo of the Clem L I built up for my wife, and figured I'd post it here too.

She's handicapped due to a genetic inflammation in her joints, and can only deal with very limited weight on her forearms and wrists. We've struggled for years to sort out a decent bike for her, the problem being that almost all new bikes use treadless stems, and have limited bar height and adjustability.

Here's a picture of her Clem with the highest and shortest stem I could find, plus Boscos. This is the first bike she's been able to enjoy riding in ten years!! 

Oddly it kind of reminds me of a chopper Schwinn I had as a teenager, but grown up.

Wow, that's so great that you were able to set it up so that she can ride comfortable. Def looks like one of the old school banana seat choppers but much, much classier. Congrats!

I'm glad you found a solution, and an elegant one.

What it the world is that stem? It actually looks perfect on that bike, even though I think tall quills, at least on road bikes, detract from the bikes' visual harmony. On this bike, it looks normal and even proprotional. It certainly looks better than "ape hanger" bars.

But what is make and model?

What an awesome adaptation you have made for this Clem! Where on earth did you discover this stem?! I’m sure your wife is thrilled, as you must also be, as you will now have a cycling partner. I hope you two roll over hill and dale together and post some selfies. #cutecouplealert

How does she like the ride of her new bike? Did you surprise her or did she pick it out? I’m so glad you posted; such a great story. ❤️

Hello Everyone.

Sorry for the slow reply. For some reason my account now requires my posts to be approved so it takes a while after I write.

My wife loves her bike. Finally riding with no pain. And yeah, I kind of surprised her. Just told her a bike was coming and built it up one afternoon while she was out, but it took a few weeks/tries to get the stem right. This super tall one is from eBay (ie. China), just Google "tall quill stem" and a bunch come up!

Thanks!! Yeah I kind of like it as a chopped-out Clem.

The stem was on eBay. Just search for "tall quill stem" and keep searching and you'll find it. Took about 3 weeks to get here, seems to be solid steel. :0) Cheap from China I think!

It looks good, whatever it is, and I say this as someone who usually dislikes a lot of quill showing.
