Riv Girls: 3rd Annual Reunion

[Bicycle Belle Ding Ding!]

A few years ago I got a PM from a thread I wrote here on this List. It was from a woman (rare!) all the way over in Philedelphia who had an Appaloosa and she sparked a conversation. Her name was Roberta. We girls gotta stick together, so distance be darned, we forged a friendship. After awhile, she asked me whereabouts I lived in Vegas. She had a sister in Henderson. “I’m in Henderson!” I shrieked. “Well, I come see her every spring; we should meet,” she said. 

We did. Year #1 we met at a coffee shop with my Betty Foy on my vehicle rack, so she could look at it. We got some stranger to snap an awkward photo of us. Year #2 I met her with my Clem H and Betty Foy and we went for a nice, long ride AND had coffee. We asked no strangers to take our photo and instead took awkward selfies. Today, Year #3 Roberta brought her sister and we did coffee, a lovely ride (all three of us!) AND lunch. I was relieved we had Debbie to take our photo so I didn’t have to ask strangers, but we took one of our famous awkward selfies with all three of us, because it’s tradition.

Finally a justified reason to have more Clems than Peterson’s in an Henderson family. Soon Five Rivendells will likely be in the Original Riv Girl Group garage. Keep it growing; there can never be to many Rivendell girls on a coffee outing or in an awkward selfie.

Oh, Ryan, alas, you are not a Riv girl and there is no bike in this garage big enough for you.

So, I will just have to strap you onto my rear rack for next year’s gathering. Don’t worry about it, I can handle it, I carry more weight than that on the boys’ school commute. But you will be given a job. You will be the one taking our photos for the day because Debbie will certainly have her own Riv by then and we will need her in all of our photos.

We had such a good time yesterday and I got to ride Leah ' s new Clem L.  It's obvious  why she loves that bike--riding it feels like one is floating over the road!   

Now, I enjoy my visits to Henderson twice as much.

Yes, that is my Betty. Still for sale in these (suddenly) trying economic times. Sigh. I wish I hadn’t paid to have it disassembled and boxed for shipping - I could still be riding that bike! The replacement for it is not going to arrive until late August, I believe.

You are overthinking the U24 thing. The sleeping environment is the least important part. Ride a circular route end up back at your house Sleep well, wake up go ride the circular route backwards with as many coffee stops and phot breaks as you desire.

I'd love to bring Clementine to Henderson sometime. Seems like I should follow your example and see if PurpleRiv would like to meet for an NRG (Northern Riv Girls) ride.

Oh, wouldn't that be fun to have these Riv Gal meetups around the country, and more of us on the Henderson one.  

Keep beginning of March open for next year!  Perhaps a week earlier to enjoy the burst of color of the cherry blossoms.  I'm sure Leah knows where all the best trees in bloom can be found.

We had one last meet up before Roberta’s plane takes her (hopefully) back East. At the time of our meeting current recommendations were no touching, stay out of public places if possible, no groups of 50 or more, don’t get too close to each other. We obeyed. 

Going outside was still permissible, which suited us fine. We nixed the coffee shop, no lunch, no hugging, and no sharing bikes back and forth. Bike ride only.

We rode bikes outside for 6 miles and kept our distance and had a safe and lovely time. Hoping the next annual Riv Girl meeting has a few less restrictions.

Riding bikes is fun. Riding bikes with friends, even more so. Riding with Riv friends is the best!

My sister's and my day started with us changing a flat on her bike, so that she could ride with us. Then, her new car wouldn't backup because there was an object behind her car--her bike on the carrier! We finally learned how to override that safety feature.

The rest of the morning was as great as it could be. We rode and chatted. The morning was perfect. Well, I guess except that the tire flatted again. We'll get another tube tomorrow and I'll check the tire again for sharp items.

Good thing your Clem L is over 6 feet 🦶 🦶 🦶 🦶 🦶 🦶 long so you Riv Girls can know how far to remain away from each other while posing for pictures!
Bonus points 1-0 for Roberta changing a tire; that will be activity 3 in my free Girls 👩🏻‍🔧 bike mechanics 🧰 101 demonstration.

Kudos to you for teaching bike mechanics and for the girls for learning. I didn’t know how to change a tube until I was an adult.
