All,
I love the basket on the front of my AHH with drop bars. But want it
easily removed and remounted which is hard with zip ties.

So, in case no one's mentioned this already, I got some velcro straps,
like this:

and use them on the basket, like this:

Works great- tight.

I carry such straps on rides all the time. I think I'm using one as a seatpost strap to replace the OEM leather strap that went missing on one of my saddle bags. A useful, cheap item.

whoa, those are sweet - like re-usable zip ties?

that's kind of what they look like.

I use thin kernmantle line, and tie down with Constrictor knots. Works great, and still fairly easy to untie.

Definitely +1 for the small velcro straps.  I've used them a lot for various things on my bike.  Easily found at CVS, Walgreens, Target.  But also in rolls of a hundred in grey or black (less obvious but maybe not as fun) at Home Depot.

I tried the Velcro route. It didn't cut it for me. Way too much instability and movement at the attachment points. But, I mainly use my basket for big & heavy things like groceries.

Doesn't it rattle quite a bit?

No. B/c it's velcro there's a little elasticity, as there is with the
metal basket itself.

I attach the strips in such a way that there's opposing tension,
iteratively tightening them- if that makes sense. Pro'ly best to
start with the loop (nearest to the headtube), then each of the
corners, revisiting them to further tighten them, as you get around
the rack. That make sense? Akin to how you're supposed to tighten
the nuts/bolts on a car wheel.

Using zipties depends on the slight elasticity of the metal wires of
the basket- no different here.

Haven't carried a load o' groceries yet, but I think it'll be plenty
tight.

Andrew,

To what do you secure the constrictor knot? Appears to be a knot
you'd have to apply to a post of some type.

I tie around the Wald basket and the Nitto mini-rack. That is, where the wire of the basket lays along the side rail of the rack, I use a constrictor knot (several, two on each side) to bind them tight to each other. You could also use hemp twine whipping to secure a basket like that, though it would be semi-permanent. And I saw a setup at RBW that simply used bar wrap tape to hold the basket in place.

Three leather toe clip straps do the job for me. Pretty easy to
remove and put back on.
