anyone know if a schwalbe g one speed tire, 60 mm, will fit the joe app?  I put the one I had on the front and fits fine. only possible issue would be side clearance down by the chainstays, I think. before I order another I thought I'd see if anyone's got actual experience.  thanks,

The good news is your front tire and your bike already know. Grin.

1. remove front tire.
2. mount tire to rear rim.

The answer will be clear. Grin.

With abandon,

I’m not going to be much more helpful here, but if you have a set of calipers you could measure the width of the fron tire and just slip the caliper over the current rear in place to see how the clearance looks at the stays.

My hunch though is that if the front fits, the rear probably will too.

Fits on the HHH tandem, and I think they use the same fork?.. Fender fit is a bit tighter than ideal, but reasonable.

BTW, how’s the flop with those tires on the Appa?.. The HHH is manageable, but I reckon a 50 mm would be dandy. (I had Hetre in it previously, which works well, but a bit more cush for the dirt roads here is nice.)

thanks max. no fenders on mine, but yes, there’s a flop that wasn’t there with the soma cazadero 50’s that I had before…not a biggie, but I notice. I’m going to order another big g one speed and try it for awhile.

all best, tom

The Deacon Patrick gave you the best answer.

The HHH tandem and Appaloosa do not share the same fork, the tandems have more clearance.

I have an Appaloosa fork here to compare.

Last year, when I was looking at a group of bikes at Riv, I’m pretty sure it was Roman who told me that they try very hard to make the front and rears of all their bikes to the same tolerances.
I was looking at how fat a tire several of their models fit.

Based on the similarity I have seen between prototype Hunqapillar, which I have, and Appaloosa, which I’ve seen, my guess is that if it fits, it will be too close for comfort. Both frames had similar margins when the Big Ben was on each.

Most reliable advice: call and ask Riv. They sell G Ones, and should have Appaloosa on-hand.

Hi Tom. I bought a pair of G Ones and tried them on my Joe. Didn’t even take it out of the stand. “Too close for comfort” is an accurate description.

Ok thanks will at riv says they may fit or not depending on the rim cliffhanger for example might push them out too much but a close fit is implied

The G One replaced the Big One, right? If so, and:

If any of you have G Ones that are 700C X 60 and that you no longer need and care to sell;

And your G Ones are the absolutely lightest, folding-est, tubeless-est model in this size that weigh about a pound each;

And they are as new or almost as new;

Then I'm interested in buying, and please get in touch.

Again, I am interested in the update to the Big Ones I own, that are true 60 mm (61 mm on my rims), tubeless, and weigh about 454 grams. I don't want any other model.

Thanks

you’ve caught me being lazy, patrick; but meanwhile I have been assured it will work, albeit with a bit of wheel flop up front (nothing troublesome, but did not notice any with the soma cazadero 50’s I removed.

thanks

For what it's worth, I have a 62cm Appa with velocity atlas rims and tried to fit the Continental X-King Protection tires Riv sells on their website - the 2.4's. Front fit fine, too tight in the rear - they rubbed on the chainstays.

Tom, it looks like your question has already been answered, and I confirm that I think it's a no go. I just tried to mount a Big One on the rear of a 58 Joe - no dice.

So I wonder if anyone can recommend a G-ONE or Big-One-like tire in a 50 or a 55, which I think would fit a Joe.

I’ve been hearing rumors that one is forthcoming from Compass. I so hope it’s true.

Schwalbe now has a 50mm G-One Speed in 700c. Looks like Snakeskin version only.
