RBW Members,

Just ran across the following on Cane Creek's website.

Interesting take on 1993 Bridgestone XO-1 inspired modern build. Thing that caught my eye was the eeWings seatpost. Hope that is not just a one off.

Thanks,

Reginald Alexis

Very cool. I have always had a soft spot for Cane Creek and their way of doing some really cool stuff for bike components.

I don't think it's a "1993 Bridgestone XO-1 inspired modern build", and more like "Let's copy the paint scheme from the XO-1, including the logo motifs".

If it's truly an XO-1 inspired modern build, one could remove the paint and identify elements of the original on the modern build. I suspect that other than both being steel bicycles, there's really no other resemblance.

The new one looks interesting but I think I'd go with the original if both were offered to me.  It's a cool concept bike by Haute, though I tend to agree with Benz on the "inspired" by the Bridgestone XO marketing shtick.  I'll make a concession for the disc stoppers, but the shock fork not so much.  But if they do a small production run I bet they'll sell.

Every gravel bike is a road bike you ride on trails so every gravel bike is inspired by XOs, a concept decades ahead of its time. I dig this new bike, make mine in '92 XO-1 tusk!

Other than the color I see little in common  with the XO-1.

A few years back Handsome Cycles, before it went out of business,  made what they called an XOXO, which was clearly inspired by the XO-1.

Methinks this is a bit more of a xo-1 inspired build--

If I would to see the Cane Creek inn the wild I would think that the color looks familiar but I would not be reminded of a Bridgestone.

Handsome Cycles is out of business? That is too bad. Really liked the look of the bikes/frames. Looks like the companies doing decent cantilever brakes only bikes/frames is dwindling.

Thanks,

Sad news about Handsome. I had a She- Devil for a number of years and thought it a terrific bike especially for city riding. They also seemed genuinely nice.

That is unfortunate to hear.  I last stopped by Handsome to pick up some wheels in Fall 22 but did not hear they had closed shop.

I actually live just down the street from the the now empty location of the Alt bike shop that Handsome started in the back of.

Remember him in the back of the Alt just getting started and was always fun to see his bikes around.

Again, unfortunate...

100%.  GeneO who worked for Handsome's dad at the Alt back in the day raced for Bridgestone and still has the XO-1.  Pretty sure that is the specific one that inspired him.

I'd throw the 1989 (I think) Specialized RockCombo in there as well. Really neat bike that, like the XO1, flopped like a flounder on the floor. I think only 500 were ever made. Drop bars, "Miami Vice" paintjob, 26" wheels... I've always wanted one. Or a modern clone, with the same paint and decal style, but the text would say "Generalized" and "RockOnBro" instead.

I'm not sure if you were unintentionally referencing this situation, but here's another old & new, with the Rock Combo

Yeah, that's what I had in mind. The one on the left is the real one, of course, but the carbonized modern race bike feels less wrong than the OP bike does when next to an XO-1. At least to me, anyway. I can't really figure out why.
