I have a set of Jones copied soma bars on my bubbe (Jones was out of stock). They are similar to the wavie and map/ahearne bars. The latter I had on a different bike and loved.
I can’t ride the bubbe even on short rides without wrist pain though.
I’ve recently put Ergon grips on my brompton and they’ve been surprisingly revelatory, so I’m wondering if anyone uses them on a wavie shaped bar. Also, If so, did it solve any problems for you?
The subtext of this is that my bubbe has a threadless crust cargo fork on it, so raising and lowering the bars is not as easy as with a quill. It does have a relatively short and up-jutting stem on it though, set at saddle height roughly.

I've used them on V-O Milan bars, similar to Wavie. Loved it.

I have Jones HBar on a Soma Wolverine that I commute on. I too had wrist pain when the bar was taped and have put Ergon grips on with excellent results.

Ergon grips have become my first choice for any bar that will take them. Ergon makes a grip specifically for bars that sweep back, wavie bars and similar - I think it's the GC1 model - I've found it in both synthetic cork and standard rubber.

That said, I've found sweep angle to be important for my wrists - I either need a lot of sweep, nearly straight back, or not too much. I've used a Jones bar, with Ergon grips, and the grips improved the experience for me, but the sweep angle was still problematic and presented issues over long rides. I gave up on my first set of Jones bars, but recently brought them back into the picture when I bought a Jones bike - they've been working well this time around with a reduced stem length, bringing the swept portion of the bar closer to me. These are just some data points, both in support of Ergon grips, but also for consideration of other elements that may inform your comfort on wavie-like bars.

My Jones Bar Ergon cockpit. I have a Rohloff belt drive train on this bike and the twist shift on the right with the appropriate Ergon grip. My secondary hand positions are available above the grips.

I've found them excellent on Jitensha bars, which are shorter than the rest mentioned here, but similar shape. I do wonder about them on bars with a little more sweep, though. I feel like the design is optimisted for straight bars, but I've seen plenty on Map type bars.

I have the Ergon GP1 Biocork grips on Kalloy "Trekking" bars on my Atlantis. That's a 40-ish degree swept bar. I like it very much, but wish it was a tad wider. The grips are perfect, though. If whatbars.com ever gets the Wavie bar uploaded, I may see if that will give me a similar sweep, but more width.

Correction, it's the Kalloy "Tourist" bar.
