Even tho’ I’m trying to sell the R538s, but for $35/pr net to me + shipping cost net to me, so I have a right to deprecate them.

The VOs feel firmer and with same cables and housing have a noticeably greater retarding effect, front and rear, with same hand pressure. And they look so much better! I gottem used, so at ~1/2 price with a wee defect that we worked around.

And the VOs are black, to match the rest of the black build. They’re pretty, even in black.

The Tektros aren’t bad and would work well for a utility bike. And they’re only $35 pair net.

Patrick,

I'm glad to hear you like the VO brakes. I have them on my Crust and really like them as well.

Told ya so :) Even though I still have my 80's Campy Super Record brakes hanging around somewhere, and love the looks of classic campy components, the Grand Cru  were a distinct upgrade. They were not cheap...but with the TRP levers  (got the silver drilled ones from Riv)  ,  were money well spent.   FWIW, Jan Heine tested them in hilly Seattle a number of years ago and wrote a very positive review.

Oh...and a good looking combo, too, which is not nothing IMO

I'm really glad you like them, Patrick.

I've had the Grand Cru brakes (in silver) on my Soma ES road bike for about a decade. Definitely recommend!
