Hello amigos,

This is my first time posting up here - thanks for having me! This is my 51cm Toyo Built Atlantis that I picked up about 2 years ago. I take a lot of pictures while I ride, sometimes digital, often on film. I'm looking forward to seeing all of your builds and being apart of the Riv hype!

Welcome to the group and I love your Atlantis and your adventures through cherry blossoms and snow!

Very nice build -- top 5 Atlantis build, in my book -- and that tiny rack is apparently capable of carrying immense loads.

I can't see clearly from the photos, but it looks as if you have knobbies under fenders. First, what are the tires? Secondly, what if any is your front fender QR system, in case you pick up a stick? I am thinking of getting a second, fat and knobby wheelset for one of my bikes and have thought this would mean removing the fenders, but perhaps there are alternatives.

Looking very sweet. I love the twin bags front and rear. What size Carradice are those?

Hope you let that cola settle down before opening!

Welcome, Josie! Glad you’re here. As I’m sure you’re aware from Instagram, I took many cues and inspiration from your lovely Atlantis as I was building up my Toyo. As far as I can tell, you and I are the only ones rocking the Nitto NR20 :)

Beautiful, beautiful bike. I’ve been thinking that crank would be just about perfect for an Roaduno.

@ Patrick Moore,

I'll let the OP respond, but the tires appear to be Ultradynamico Mars Race.

I could be wrong about the Mars part, but they're definitely Ultradynamico.

Cheers,

John

@Patrick

These are Ultradynamico Mars Race 26 x 2.3 tires. They were a tight fit under the fenders! I think the red colour is discontinued now... I'm currently running Rene Herse Humptulips Ridge in the Endurance casing. Personally, I think Rene Herse tires are the best but it's all subjective! I don't use a fender qr system. I don't do huge amounts of dirt riding with my fenders on, they generally come off for Spring/Summer (unless I'm touring.) That being said, I did get bucked off my bike one time by a stick getting stuck in my fender. That was on a 250km S240 quite a few years ago now... Maybe 5? It was pretty gnarly, I almost fell down a ravine, but I ended up just fine. Bike and fenders were fine too!

I hope that's helpful!

@jason
Y'know what, maybe it is! Lol, I forget. I dunno anything about Rivendells compared to you folks.

@brenton
Thanks! These are both Carradice Camper Longflaps in green. I love the rustic look over time (though I think the one in the back was actually brand new in this photo - first trip!) This bike is heavily inspired by Ultraromance's old Atlantis, the one on Bikepacking.com, so had to have 'em! I find it is just enough space for a proper trip with cooking equipment but there's not tons of room to spare. I don't drink anymore though, and the lack of needing to carry a bottle of a group of cans certainly helps!

@Brian
Nice to see you here! Glad you're living the NR20 life. I love that little guy. Funny enough, I'm actually running a Erlen 2.0 from Blue Lug x Ocean Air Cycles rn... I like them both very much but all time fav is definitely the R10! I think I'ma take the R10 to Japan this Spring...

@Richard
Thanks very much! It's been the dream bike for quite some time and I'm really, really happy with how it's turned out. I change the build all the time (at least the bars and racks,) and it's never disappointed me. This crank, I think, is certainly the centrepiece and I think it is very much worth it if you can spring for it! I love how they look on singlespeed/fixed gear setups. I'm strongly considering getting another one for my fixed gear/ss bike! Send pics if you do it!

Thanks (Jeremy and also John), good to know about the Ultradynamicos.

Am currently pondering a (modestly) knobby second wheeset for my 29er Matthews road bike and considering whether a 650B X 66-70 mm tire with small regular knobs might work under the Kelpie fenders mounted to (barely) accept 700C X 60 mm Big Ones. I'd gain about between 10 mm and 13 mm under the fenders with the fatter 650Bs.
