THE electronic-ticketing system for bus services was implemented to bring about transparency and accountability of the daily takings of the bus industry.
The Attorney-General and Minister for Economy Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum clarified this during the launch of the E-Card for bus services at the Suva bus stand by the Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama.
He said if a passenger boards the bus and the bus does not have the e-ticketing machine installed, or if the machine is not working, the bus driver will have to allow the passenger on the bus for free.
The system is administered by Vodafone Fiji, which has issued more than 600,000 registered e-cards so far.

SCHOOL children without eTransport cards can still travel to school in a bus from tomorrow.
A Government statement this evening has states that the Fiji Bus Operators Association has agreed to allow school children to board the bus.
This is irrespective of whether they have received their school eTransport cards or not.
The statement further says that Vodafone Fiji and the Ministry of Education will continue the distribution of school eTransport cards over the next few days.
