PROM Syllabus – Scope and Coverage – Discussion at Rizvi

ALL THEORY TO BE COVERED EXTENSIVELY AND COMPREHENSIVELY

Topic 1

Only theory.  Numericals only in Moving Average and Exponential Smoothing.

Only Simple 3 months and 5 months Moving averages  and Forecasting to be covered.  Weighted moving averages not included.

In Exponential smoothing methods, only Single alpha (0.3 and 0.5), only MSC and MAPE

Topic 2

Both AON and AOA to be covered. Student can choose either method in case not specifically instructed in the question.

Exhaustively cover PERT, CPM and Crashing. Crashing numerical in exam should involve maximum 3-4 steps/ iterations only. All types of Floats included. Probability numericals based on OPM/ Beta distribution formulas. Normal distribution numerical can also be asked. In that case, it is recommended that Z value be specified in the question itself as all centres may not be able to provide Z value tables to all students.

Topic 3

Gantt chart - Resource scheduling limited to which time interval and at what point maximum resources required. Levelling and Smoothing not to be done.

Topic 4

Pure theory. No numerical.

Topic 5

S curve – only theory, no numerical…but very essential for students to draw the perfect shape S in the graph.

CPI and SPI – Significances in 0.5 (However, teach all the calculations of SPI and CPI just in case asked in exam). Students should be able to explain the CPI and SPI concept, calculate as well as interpret the result.

Review after 5 weeks (such problems…)

This chapter covered very well in the Handbook – PM BOK. If you register for PMP, you are given this book.

Topic 6

Calculations of NPV, IRR, Payback and Discounted Payback (Exclude Hertz?? Method)

Calculation of Profitability Index (without probabilistic estimates)

Projected Cash Flows statement (most details will be given in the question)

Projected statements of Income-expenditure and balance sheet (based on Accrued principles, DPR). Cash Flow is a default inclusion.

Topic 7

Only for demo.. to make students aware of Prom softwares such as MProject, Prima, etc

Question paper pattern

60 marks paper

Q1 for 20 marks will be a compulsory question…definitely Numericals not theory. One ques of 20 mks or 2 of 10 marks each. It was agreed that let this ques not be a finance ques but a more general topic.

Out of the remaining 6 questions, attempt any 4. Each question of 10 marks each, may or may not have sub ques (a) and (b). Probably might have internal choice where student has to attempt any 2 out of a, b and c.

Again request/ recommendation by all that at least one 10 marks question should be purely theory… just for the benefit of HR students.
