before people spread rumours please pay attention to the 2nd last paragraph. I think the real story is there.

Interesting read.  For a priest his age - He would know Latin so he does not need a translator.  The way Vatican works - usually there is a letter to check with the local bishop what is the issue and Vatican will normally send a letter to ask for 'show cause'.  Then there is support from the local bishop also.  Excommunication for support of women priests and  gays may not be the issue.  Don't forget that Australia IS liberal and what comes from the main press must be fine-combed.  The church documents have always said love the sinner in the case of gays and help them to integrate.

Nowadays, Excommunications are for errors in theological teachings that means ' that they go away from the 'deposit of faith' that has been handed down to us, e.g. that the real presence of Jesus, the doctrine of the Trinity, the virginity of Mary and other doctrines.  This priest may have ordained women.

Finally with Pope Francis, knowing his charism, he would not have been that hasty - don't forget he was also under the sanction too.

So let us not be too hasty here and find the real story.  The devil has sowed his seed very deeply and he is certainly reaping it now and we have to be careful that we do not have dissention.  Jesus is really suffering in his body because of these divisions.

God bless and have a great day.
