My DSL contract is running out and i'm thinking about getting FIOS fiber.
Any one have experience / opinions about it?
Bummer that they block port 80.

They block port 80 if you only sign up for residential.
If you sign up for business service, they open up it up.

You have two choices:
1. pay the extra for business service.
2. use an alternate port - e.g., port 81 - if you just gotta have a vanity web site.

I'm on the $35/month plan - 5Mb down, 2Mb Up.

Upstream makes a difference to my VoIP phone and Torrent connections.

No outages since I got it. Also, I set their router aside and used my WRT54G with dd-wrt firmware on it, without an issue.

Yes, I really am a geek:

The install is done in three waves (literally, three different visits by different specialized crews):
1. From telephone pole cable height to street level
2. From street level to home terminal site.
3. From terminal to router and port install.

Since I already have 18 ports with home run cabling distributed from my garage, the last install was quick, and is what is documented in the photos. My installer had to make an extra weld because crew #2 made an unnecessary cable cut. He had to go get the weld unit from another guy in the field.

Install it and you can boot  TimeWarner and their crappy customer service.
