Dear People,
There will be a game at our cherished and just unfenced Codornices homeland this Sunday at 11, and as of now there are four slots left. Four!
Please bring $5 for the field, which, I think you’ll agree, is a small price to play for such a sublime mélange of grass, form, and function . . . Raymond 510-845-7552 / cell 510-677-8860
PS: A couple notes of major import:
1-Daylight Savings begins this weekend (or maybe it ends; I’ve never really understood this), and thus you will need to set your clocks, watches, and eternal souls ahead one hour on Saturday night. If you fail to do this, you could arrive at the game a full hour late, thereby forever branding yourself as the trouble-making chrono-dufus you really don’t want to be.
2- We will be holding our annual Codornices follow-up vote on proposed rule-changes this Sunday. Two of the votes will be on a reconsideration of changes passed just a couple months ago, and so if you will not be at the game but you would still like to vote on these two vital issues (and have played at least once in the last year!), let me know your vote by Saturday at 6PM at the latest; I will tally the absentee results and post them by name, lest anyone think I’m pulling a fast one.
The two issues:
A-The recently revised Walk Rule:
1-Keep current policy: Four balls is an automatic walk (like professional baseball).
2-Revert to our old policy: No forced walks, optional walk for batter after four balls, and optional walk to 2nd base after six balls.
B-The recently revised Mercy Rule:
1-Keep current policy: At the half inning, the team trailing by 10 or more runs gets 4 outs and the team leading by 10 or more runs still gets 3 outs.
2-Revert to the old policy: At the half inning, the team trailing by 10 or more runs gets 4 outs but the team leading by 10 or more runs only gets 2 outs.
Yeah, recreational democracy is hard and I have no doubt that these issues will torment you to no end for their ethical and aerobic complexities, but remember that this is a safe space to make your voice heard, as bitterly resented as it might potentially be.
