We are seeking with 10+ years of overall experience and 5+ years a skilled Kafka Administrator along with strong Mainframe background to support enterprise messaging, event streaming, and system integration initiatives. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience administering Kafka platforms while also understanding Mainframe technologies and legacy system interfaces. This role will be responsible for maintaining Kafka infrastructure, ensuring platform reliability and security, and enabling seamless integration between distributed systems and Mainframe applications.
Required Skills and Qualifications
· Strong experience in Apache Kafka administration in enterprise environments.
· Good understanding of Kafka architecture, brokers, partitions, replication, consumer groups, and topic management.
· Experience with Kafka monitoring, alerting, performance tuning, and troubleshooting.
· Hands-on experience with Linux/Unix administration and shell scripting.
· Strong knowledge of Mainframe technologies such as z/OS, JCL, COBOL, CICS, DB2, IMS, or related platforms.
· Experience integrating Kafka with Mainframe systems using middleware or messaging solutions such as IBM MQ or similar technologies.
· Understanding of enterprise integration patterns, event-driven architecture, and distributed systems.
· Familiarity with security concepts such as SSL, SASL, ACLs, encryption, and authentication/authorization for Kafka platforms.
· Experience with automation and DevOps tools such as Ansible, Jenkins, Git, or scripting tools is a plus.
· Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Key Responsibilities
· Install, configure, administer, and support Apache Kafka clusters across development, testing, and production environments.
· Monitor Kafka broker health, topic usage, throughput, lag, retention, and cluster performance to ensure high availability and reliability.
· Manage Kafka components such as Kafka Connect, Schema Registry, and related tooling as applicable.
· Troubleshoot platform, connectivity, and performance issues, and perform root cause analysis for incidents.
· Design and implement secure, scalable, and resilient messaging and event-streaming solutions.
· Support integration between Kafka and Mainframe-based applications, data sources, and messaging systems.
· Work with Mainframe teams to enable data flow between legacy platforms and distributed systems.
· Collaborate with application development, infrastructure, and support teams to onboard publishers and consumers to Kafka.
· Perform capacity planning, platform upgrades, patching, backup, recovery, and disaster recovery activities.
· Develop and maintain operational documentation, standards, runbooks, and support procedures.
· Support production deployments and provide on-call or rotational support when needed.
