Hello Everybody,

I am a new RAxML user. I am trying to run the new version raxml-8.1.20 but getting following error :-

"Illegal instruction (core dumped)".

I have tried to search the previous poster AVX issues, but didn't get much help.
I would highly appreciate any suggestion/help on "why I am getting this error" and "How to solve this"

Many Thanks,
Reema

Hello Reema,

does your processor support AVX in the first place?

If you're on linux, you can check it with something like

$ cat /proc/cpuinfo | grep avx

If output is empty (=no avx support), please use SSE3 version instead.

Hello Alexey,

Thanks you for the reply. After recompiling RAxML again with AVX instruction "raxmlHPC-PTHREADS-AVX" working fine.
