Is there a way to build a self-packed, standalone linux executable?

PS: I know that I can create a .jar file and change its permission with "chmod +x", but this is not what I want. I would still need the "lib" folder ("jruby-complete.jar"), and thus it's not standalone as a .exe or .app.

No, not with the current code. Even the Windows exe is not really a
self-contained binary but a launcher to call main executable jar. The
related libraries are still separate.

Is the goal to ensure that the user never has (easy) access the files,
or to be able to deliver a single file for installation?

Or something else?
