Hello,

I am using an older Nikon D700 and for some reason I can only develop this in Lightness (Lab) Black and White. When I select color it turns to a weird blue/orange kind of negative/solar looking image. With raw files from Nikon Z6 the color function does work correctly.
Do you know what's causing this??

Best regards,

Maarten

I downloaded a sample D700 NEF file from the internet - when I open the file in RPP, I get the result that you describe - the blue-orange rendering.

If I go the Profiles menu, “Default” is selected.  If I change it to “Built-in” the rendering appears as one would expect (a rendered color image).

I do not know why this works this way, I have never used a Nikon camera or work with NEF files.

I hope this solution works for you!

Kirk

I have various Nikon cameras, and the D700 is the only one in my possession that requires this settings adjustment that Kirk described — not sure what’s up with that, but since I know what to do, it doesn’t affect my image conversion workflow negatively.

Robert

This is macOS issue - they ruined support for some types of LUT ICC profiles, I can't do anything about this. Built-in profile is a matrix and those work.

Good to know. I assume this will not affect custom profiles made within RPP’s camera profiling dialog.

Hello,

Thanks very much everybody, I can edit them now in color! Appreciate it and it's a great program, I just discovered it a couple of days ago.

Best,

Maarten

What macOS has the issues with LUT camera profiles? I presume this ie because ColorSync is used as engine? Not sure if moving to LittleCMS would solve any of those and how hard it would be (I am guessing for RPP - very hard) but is there a support case opened with Apple to sort this out?

I'm not sure ICC specs (old, current, "revised" - no matter) are suitable for raw data. ICC attempts to maintain
compatibility are much like ISO attempts to define "camera sensitivity".

If you open the camera profiling window, you can read the note at the bottom of the window that details RPP’s reliance on Argyll CMS for profile generation.

But not for profile application.
