I have been experimenting with a different workflow to allow me to
better incorporate RPP. Instead of saving jpegs I thought to save 16-
bit tiffs to give me maximum flexibility in PP. However, when I try
to open in in OX X (using Preview) this fails with the following error
message:

"The file “PA270294_bw.tiff” could not be opened. It may be damaged
or use a file format that Preview doesn’t recognize." Files are saved
as 16-bit TIFFs in BetaRGB. Jpegs in the same colour space seem to
work OK.

Any ideas? I have repaired permissions already.

Hello Andrew.

What's your Mac OS version? Also if you have "Copy tags" option
enabled try to disable it.

Hi Andrey

I am on 10.6.5. I tried saving a file with the copy tags box unticked
and got the same error message on trying to open the file.

I should add that this is a new problem - perhaps one of the recent
updates has messed something up.

I can open the files in Capture One no problem, just note in the Apple
programmes that use the core OS X services (Preview/Aperture)

I have 10.6.5 and it definitely works for me. Could you email me such
tiff file converted in the half mode to make it smaller? I'm assuming
that such image also doesn't open in Preview on your system.

Ok--I have a similar problem (G5 iMac, OS X 10.5). I can open the
tiffs in Preview, but iPhoto will not import. When I try to save out
as something different in Preview, the only options I have are tiff
(which, when saved, iPhoto will still not open) and pdf.

I have previously had no problem opening tiff files in iPhoto or
Aperture (2--no Intel Mac yet).

Any clues?

Try this beta http://www.raw-photo-processor.com/RPP/RPP_Uni_1346Beta.zip
with 'Copy tags' disabled if you have it on. If this doesn't help
please send me one such file in email (troubled tiff saved in Half
mode) and I'll probably be able to tell you more.

Have you installed the BetaRGB profile on your Mac? If not the
problem may simply be that it doesn't know how to interpret the
colors.

Check your Library/ColorSync/Profiles and the system /Library/
ColorSync/Profiles directory; if you don't see a 'BetaRGB.icc' file,
download it from http://www.brucelindbloom.com/index.html?BetaRGB.html
and add it to one (or both) of these locations.

Thank you for that. My problem wasn't colour profile related, but I
didn't have the Beta RGB profile. I have installed the icc file and
now can expect more accurate colour representation.
