Exactly. The old slideshow software - proshow and P2E are now outdated. A decent video editor will produce effectively the same output, generating EXE files is useless these days - just generate video files that can play on ANY device.
Proshow gold made excellent mp4s that looked great on big screens. Sure, you can do much of the same stuff on video editors but I found Photodex to be fast and easy to use. Especially when it came to transitions and timing. I could knock off a 100 slide memorial in no time but on my version Sony Vegas it would take some time to tweak it.
