Here is an initial list of correspondences:
Charizzard = Tiamat
Blastoise = Apsû
Octillery = Kutulu
Machamp = Kingu
Jynx = Ereshkigal
Spiritomb = Azag-thoth
Aerodactyl = Pazuzu
Venusaur = Shub-Niggurath
Water-type Octillery/Kutulu would be strong against fire-type
Charizzard/Tiamat, hence the murder of Tiamat by "The Man of Tulu"
described in Chapter 5. This battle was recreated in the Pokemon TV
series episode 215 "Octillery The Outcast". And so forth.

They are most times translated, by what sound
they seem to make.
Most of the Pokemon have totally different names
in Japanese.
Some of them, are just called, Lizard!
