Hi,
Are you trying to run multiple users on the same server accessing the same database?
What build are you using?
What is your order id?

ATX (or CCH Small Firm Services) has started using Raven database engine as it's data store.  past years I was able to use this software in a terminal server environment.  As of now I can no longer get it to work.  In the event viewer on both the server and workstation ( installed on a windows terminal server) I get the following errors:

Event ID: 489
"C:\ProgramData\CCH Small Firm Services\ATX2012\Data\DataStore\logs\RVN.log" for read only access failed with system error 32 (0x00000020): "The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process. ".  The open file operation will fail with error -1032 (0xfffffbf8).

Are you from ATX Software? Or are you a customer of ATX?

I am a customer of ATX Software.  I am not a software developer for ATX

Okay, in order to help, can you pull into the discussion someone from ATX ? We need to figure out how they are using RavenDB.

What do they mean "this violates their user agreement"?

If they mean that they will sue if you do this, you can't expect anyone here to help hack their product, right?

It sounds like they've made a poor choice from a customer perception angle.

Raven itself, will allow multiple users. Raven in embedded mode is owned by a single process. If that process/program doesn't allow multiple users, then you have a problem.

I too am a customer. ATX/CCH will not help as they claim this violates their user agreement. In previous years they worked off of access and multiple users could log on a VPN or workstation at same time and access database. We need to find a way to allow raven to allow multiple users on same machine read/write at same time.

I am afraid that without help from the software vendor, I can do very little.
That said, if you can point me to your contact with CCH, I would be happy to talk with them.

Here is the issue....they are saying installing ATX on a VPN actually is an issue with the IRS and electronic filing. I think ATX/CCHSFS has bitten off more than they can chew and dont have anyone internally that understands how Raven operates.

I agree with Stephen.  They also have speed issues when opening the program and a tax return from a workstation.  The only person from ATX/CCH on the ATX Community is Kim Manuel VP - Customer Relations with this phone number 1-800-638-8291.  We already switched to Proseries for this tax season.  Maybe next year things will be better for them.

Brian,
This isn't a RavenDB issue, you need to talk with ATX.

Did you resolve this?  I was using ATX 2012 on a remote desktop server successfully until the 12.8 update came out on Friday.  Now the first person logs in just fine but anyone else gets a LOGON ERROR that says, "The windows user X is currently running ATX on this workstation. X will need to login and close the application before you can start ATX.  For workstations with multiple users, each user should close ATX before signing out of the computer."  It is like they purposefully blocked this feature in the 12.8 update.  I just installed and tested with 12.9 and that didn't fix anything.  I talked to a Tech there on Saturday but he just said the license didn't support that.  But it used to work! .... ??

Guys,
PLEASE use the ATX forums, or whatever else there is for ATX issues.
