Has anyone established a workaround for watching Netflix using peer to peer mirroring on Airplay? I have no Wi-Fi, but I have an unlimited LTE data connection on my phone. The unlimited data only applies to the phone though, and not to personal hotspot/tethering (or I would just connect my Apple TV to my phones Internet-not that simple unfortunately).

I have the most updated equipment (iPhone running 8.4 and apple tv 3rd gen rev A with the most up to date software). What I want is to mirror my iphone screen to my HDTV using apple TV AirPlay mirroring. I have it all set up and it works fine, but when I try to play a Netflix vid, I get a couple of different error messages. Netflix customer service has told me that Netflix doesn't work with airplay, but that they are working on it. Something about my data connection not having enough strength to send the proper resolution to the HDTV. But really it's just a Netflix hasn't figured it out yet, because I can use both the NBC iPhone app and the Hulu iPhone app, and they both work great with great resolution and no lag while using peer to peer airplay mirroring

TThanks for your thoughts. Do you mean that Netflis developers need to figure it out, or AirPlay developers? When I made it clear to Netflix that I may have to cancel my service and go with Hulu since the Hulu app works perfectly, they said that they would escalate my case and contact AirPlay about it. We'll see if that actually happens.

It would be the Netflix developers. Airplay is a protocol developed by Apple. The same tools are given to all, if there is a an issue it will be up to the specific app developer (in this case Netflix) to fix it.

The issue is that AirPlay simply hands over connection details and expects the AppleTV to do the heavy lifting (actually pulling the data from Netflix), so this is by design. In order to be able to AirPlay Netflix, the AppleTV itself must have an internet connection. "Mirroring" the iOS device would probably work, but is not ideal for movie watching.

I don't believe the ad-hoc wireless network created to facilitate "direct" airplay shares the iPhone LTE Internet connection - it works in similar fashion to peer to peer AirDrop. The AppleTV must have Internet access itself in order for HTTP Live Streaming to work. The same thing will happen when one tries to AirPlay YouTube, Vimeo, etc from an LTE-only iPhone to a peer to peer AppleTV without an active Internet connection - it's not just Netflix.

AppleTv definitely does not *have* to have an Internet connection. Without connecting AppleTv to a wifi connection (using AppleTv only as a mirror) I can stream and mirror content beautifully from my iPhone to my tv from several websites, including Hulu, NBC, FOX, CBS, Amazonf Instant, all while ONLY using the phone's LTE connection and using AirPlay/AppleTv only as a mirror.

Airplay and Airplay Mirroring it is not the same service. If you use Airplay Mirroring, Netflix will worked too. If you only try to use Airplay, it looks like connection to the Internet for Apple TV is required.

It looks like the same requirements which applies for streaming iTunes content via Peer-to-Peer connection from iOS device to Apple TV, also applies for a Netflix - as per: Use AirPlay to wirelessly stream content from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

The issue is that AirPlay simply hands over connection details and expects the AppleTV to do the heavy lifting (actually pulling the data from Netflix), so this is by design. In order to be able to AirPlay Netflix, the AppleTV itself must have an internet connection.

I agree that Airplay and Airplay Mirroring are not the same thing and it seems that Mirroring should simplify the situation and make Netflix work...but, it seems that the Netflix app disables Mirroring and tries to send the video via true Airplay.

I have set up iphone to ATV via peer to peer. Then I turn on Mirroring and the iphone is successfully projected to the TV. Then as soon as I start the Netflix app on the iphone the Mirroring goes away and the screen just turns to the spinning wheel until an error comes up minutes later. Actually it works sometimes and other times it doesn't. To me, it seems that certain episodes work and others do not.

I have same issue. About 3 weeks ago, the video didnt work only netflix and youtube app. I shut down my phone. Unfortunately, it wasnt perfect solution. I also did reset all settings. It seemed to have solved problem completely, but I get same issue now. I want to know which thing occurs this problem, with apps or IOS? No matter what it is, it needs to be updated.

I have had this Apple TV device for some time now and never have had the Netflix app working properly. I was wondering if this community could help me out with this because I am a bit out of ideas now.

What I have done is that I have a normal Netflix account which I am using in my home network with multiple devices and everything else is working fine but this AppleTV device with Netflix app. Netflix app is working fine until the video stream should be starting when it says only "An Error Occurred Loading This Content. Try again later!". The same thing with UTM and XG both.

I have tried the instructions of this thread but no help. Same subnet, same gateway, same DNS but no success. I have no any exotic setup in my firewall pretty much default everything. Some small adjustments but not anything that could block anything important. Everything works.

And please if you have any suggestions put them so that me as a casual user understand what you trying to say. No pro lingo like "put the MASQ on in new host in FQDN and override policy on DNAT user". I have no idea what you talking about :)

Hello Zerry,

you might also search the logs and IPS for suspicious entries in order to find the reason.

If you have the change you might mirror the traffic that goes to the apple TV and look whether you see what is happening.

Eventually some of the advanced firewall settings might help. I don't have netflix. Probably it uses UDP or QUIC and maybe some bulk transfer with with longer pauses. There is some timeout for the stateful UDP "connections". The default is 60. However this is pure guessing but it helped really good with Microsoft Teams.

I just tried again what comes to log of XG when I just power on AppleTV and go directly to Netflix and try to continue watching the last movie I have been watching. Same thing. No stream. And no lines to log. None from that IP in about the same time stamp than the error occurred.

I am ashamed to confess that I do not know what you mean by do I use DPI or Web proxy. I think that I use web proxy because all the lines in Policy are the devault ones and in there are the 2 lines on by default. I haven't touched anything on them.

I have no IP specific lines in Firewall Rules at all and the only line active now is the #Default_Network_Policy. Nothing else. I have stripped all the rules to check out if there is/was something that is causing this. No effect.

I made a new rule to firewall with the highest priority allowing all traffic from that IP to WAN to any destination with any service. In web filtering web policy to allow all and no other selection. I tested with Filtering common web ports enabled and not (web proxy and DPI). With this new rule enabled the Netflix client do not connect to Netflix at all. When I turn off this rule the same old thing Netflix client works fine but the stream do not start. Only the error message.

With trial and error and searching for options and suggestions from internet I finally found the solution to this problem. To me as a not full-time Sophos admin the solution was kinda complicated and demanded a lot of effort to get to know all the little nuances of the XG. AppleTV with Netflix app is now fully working with my XG. Thank you all for suggestions. I am not so sure did I weaken the security a lot but I limited the effects to AppleTV IP only and therefore I rely on Apples' security on this one if something is "leaking".

You know it is/was very annoying when the Netflix clients in Samsung/LG smart TVs, Android cell phones/tablets, Android mediaboxes and Windows10 computers and laptops worked all out-of-the-box without any modifications to XG or apps/clients, and this AppleTV (gen3) Netflix app did not work even thou practically the only difference is the IP address. And still AppleTV Netflix app worked fine with Ubiquiti USG3.

Oh, and for iPhone 15 peoples, the existing two-years free applies. Meaning that on the whole, Apple has deferred this potential-payment-problem decision till 2025. These days, the feature is available in the following countries, for both iPhone 14 and iPhone 15 users.

The core difference with an app like RideWithGPS is that it also has sensor support (even Garmin Varia radar integration), as well as uploads to all the various 3rd party platforms like a head unit (whereas Google Maps will most definitely not upload to Strava).

Two Things:
1-I like the PeakDesign phone holder on the handle bars, good choice!
2-I wish Peloton would allow none Peloton bikes to connect to their system, specifically for their scenic rides. I like to do those rides from time-to-time, but I am not a fan of the bike itself as I prefer to ride my Cannondale on my Wahoo.

Most other communicators (EPIRB/PLB, 911 call on a cell phone) will pass through an emergency call without any other charges, so long as the device functions. I think where Garmin and others in the satellite device arena are making their money is non-emergency check-ins and tracking, as well as messaging, rather than on a cost per emergency call.
