Rattle on Macs

I recently bought the Rattle book, but immediately lent it to a professor, suggesting he use it as a basis for a course he teaches. But he tried to use Rattle on a Mac and like many others, have run into issues. Once I get the book back, I intend to try and use Rattle on a Mac. Has anyone resolved what the issues have been on a Mac? On the download page there is NO mention of Macs. Should the GNU/Linux version be used? It would be great for Macs to directly be supported. But if they cannot, can someone provide a detailed description of how to make it work and get it posted on the download site?
