The battle.net version still works online. You might have issues finding people to play with but you are still able to connect. You won't be able to join a chat room however (probably just thevoid - which if you remember is the channel you went to when kicked or banned out of a channel) which happened when bots were emulate Warcraft II and Diablo I. Such fun. But I did play a game of Warcraft II online on Battle.net about a year ago. But had a decent wait to find someone!
The Battle.net installer is just for a standalone battle.net installer, and that installer is actually already updated to Lutris 0.4.14 script. So if you want it standalone, make sure your Lutris is 0.4.14.
@Dox has already written a great script, which contains everything necessary so far.

Something is not working yet. Partially my problem was with Blizzard. The download works only if you have no router or switch switched between.
At the time of warcraft 2 (1995?) the common CRT monitors could switch to a multitude of resolutions (like 640x480).
Laptop screens and flatscreens have a single preset resolution, so the graphics card driver or monitor has to use some kind of scaling/stretching, or just center the image as in your last photo.
