I so appreciate the connections I've made in Community Bible Study: connecting with a diverse group of people studying God's Word together, connecting with Jesus through God's Word, and connecting with others in my life in meaningful ways because of life lessons I've learned through this study.

The mission of the Yale Bible Study is to engage clergy and lay audiences in small group Bible study by providing studies of biblical books, deepened by insights from Yale Divinity School professors. These materials form an accessible, free, and deeply thoughtful and informed group Bible study program.

Reformation Day is October 31. In remembrance, keep reading to explore with David P. Barshinger how the Reformers offer us a model for Bible study. (Or dig deeper into Reformation exegesis with Reading Scripture with the Reformers or The Martin...

My goal for in depth study is not only to link to scripture but also to recall with clarity what I do learn. Thus my need to space out those sessions when I recall what I learn in an effort to retain as much relevant info. as I can. I was wondering if you had any such goals and maybe how you incorporate that into your well established study system?

The PW Purpose calls Presbyterian Women to nurture faith through prayer and Bible study. PW/Horizons studies are written from within the Reformed tradition and strengthen the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). All of our studies can be read and studied by individuals, but it is what the individuals discover together through group prayer and Bible study that nurtures Presbyterian Women.

Before we can talk about the how to of the inductive Bible study method, we must first define what it is. At its simplest, inductive Bible study is a simple and effective step-by-step approach to interpreting and studying the Bible. It is time tested and generally regarded by Bible-believing Christians to be the best way to study Scripture. The goal is to walk you through the steps of reading and interpreting Scripture to applying it to your life.

When it comes to learning, we generally approach it from one of two directions. Either we: 1) bring our own assumptions and use the guiding force behind our study, or 2) we begin with our subject and draw any conclusions based on what we learn from our study. The first method is called deduction and the second is called induction. In the realm of the general sciences, neither approach is better or worse than the other. Each has its pros and cons, and can be useful in different scenarios.

When it comes to the Word of God, inductive Bible study is the best way to study. We want to interpret and understand the Scripture based on the evidence presented to us, instead of our preconceived notions of what we want or assume the text says.

A large part of understanding the Bible rightly requires looking at it through the proper lenses. Unlike many books we read today, the Bible is: old, a compilation of many writings, and a religious book. As such, we must keep all those things in mind when we study the Bible. In addition, each facet plays a key role in the right interpretation of Scripture.

The first step to inductive Bible study is observing and engaging with the text of Scripture. Here we seek to gain a basic understanding of what the text says. At this point in the study our goal is not making any conclusions. Instead, the objective is looking at the text and asking the right questions to get all the information we need to start interpreting the passage.

The third step of interpretation involves looking at all those interesting words we found during the observation phase of our study. At this point we want to call on the aide of both context and our theological lexicons to help us discover the meaning of words and phrases. This step is important because we must understand the meaning of words if we are going to interpret any passage correctly.

Therefore, this step finds us conducting word studies on all the words and phrases we need help with. Again, this is something we covered extensively in a previous Bible study tip, so I will refer you there for the full methodology.

The final step of the inductive Bible study method is application. God spoke to his people when the Bible was written. And God continues to speak to his people today through those same words. Therefore, it is important for us to know how we should apply what the Bible says and teaches to our lives. This step will do just that.

In the inductive Bible study method, one thing that gets talked about a lot is writing in and marking up your Bible. This step helps you visualize the observations you make as you engage with the text. If you search the Internet for ways to mark up your Bible, there is no end to the systems and information you will find.

A good part of the inductive Bible study method is making observations so you can interpret and make application. This step includes marking up your Bible so you can visualize those observations. What makes this edition of the ESV Journaling New Testament great is that it uses a single-column paragraph format with 3/8-inch space in between each line of Bible text. This format gives you ample room to mark up the text and make notes without feeling cluttered or having to squeeze it between lines of text. The wide margins also make it easier to jot longer notes in the margin.

If you choose to study on your own, the studies will be delivered to you personally by local BibleStudyOffer.com representatives. You will receive two lessons at a time (along with video links for the prophecy series) for you to study on your own. As long as you are enjoying the lessons, we will keep delivering them on a regular basis until you have completed the series, or have expressed that you are no longer interested.

If you choose a study coach, a trained study leader will contact you to set up a convenient time and place for a one-on-one study. Females are assigned to females and males to males when it comes to assigning one-on-one study leaders. As stated above, we will continue delivering the lessons on a regular basis until you have completed the series, or have expressed that you are no longer interested.

You probably know me as the person who writes on marriage and parenting and other Christian life issues. But the thing that really excites me, that gets me up in the morning, that motivates me to do what I do is the Word of God. I think of myself as a Bible teacher, that everything I write about emerges from the study of God's Word.

It's Jesus who the prophets longed for; it's Jesus that the Law pointed to; it's Jesus that the Bible is about. And as you study the Word of God, you're meant to find more than theological wisdom and practical help for daily living; you're meant to find Jesus; you're meant to fall in love with Jesus; you're meant to find rest in Jesus; you're meant to find hope in Jesus; you're meant to surrender your life to Jesus.

And so, marriage is spiritual war, parenting a spiritual war, and surely the study of the Word of God is spiritual warfare. As I said earlier, you have to know that you bring some kind of position, some kind of condition of your heart to your study of the Bible. And so that is war for your heart, that your heart would be open and ready and expectant. I love this parable that Jesus told in Luke 18 of the Pharisee and the tax collector. Let me read for you:

I want to encourage you to pray that God would give you the grace to bring these three things to your study of the Word of God. First, an expectant heart; that you really believe God reveals Himself in His Word. You expect that Word to be a tool of transformation. Bring a humble heart. Admit how desperately you need what the Word of God is able to give you. And, bring an obedient heart ready to live in light of what the Word will teach you that day.

In this Bible study, which accompanies a trade book by the same name, Jennifer Dukes Lee helps readers dig deep into Scripture to reveal how land is a picture of our slow growth into claiming the promises of God.

Thousands of young people come to the United States each semester with the dream of studying at an American college or university. They are excited about their new adventure, but also have much apprehension. By befriending these students, we, as Christians, can not only become their friends but also find that God opens doors for us to tell of His great love for them.

Hi,
I am new here and saw the question about soul ties. I am a volunteer facilitator for a local abortion recovery ministry here. We have a topic within the study that talks about soul ties as part of the recovery. We use Her Choice to Heal by Sydna Masse. I had a nouthetic counseling pastor look over this portion and he could not find anything unbiblical about it. Could you expand on that for me?

Hi Michelle! Thank you so much for the wealth of information you have on your site. It has been such a blessing to my daughter and myself. I am trying to find biblically sound online bible studies for women that are NOT live. For a variety of reasons, I am not able to commit to a particular time to log on with others for Live interactions. I can, however, do the back and forth commenting. Any recommendations that I can look into? Appreciate you!

You can start at any part of the study going through the Bible to where you began, in order to get your 3 year certificate. For example, if you start with Romans, you will complete your 3 year study with Acts.

Each week there will be 5 days of study (the big picture, a crucial chapter, a prominent player, a notable feature, and a timeless principle), requiring 3-8 hours of study time each week. You can complete a day at a time like a devotional, or you can complete more days in a sitting depending on the time you have each week.
