Time:
Oct 6, 2pm - 5pm

This is a somewhat early announcement, but we are at last having another full meetup on Oct 6.
Also it will be one of the ones advertised on the blog, so there should be some new people (hello to the people who've signed up for the mailing list over the last couple of weeks)!
My plan is for us to talk about in what situations it is possible (or desirable) to convince other people to change their minds. We tend to be theoretically more focused in the rationalist community on making our own cognition and beliefs better (ie cultivating Scout Mindset), but I suspect many of us often spend hours and hours thinking about how best to make an argument to convince someone else that we are right.
However in practice, most of what we are thinking in these cases is actually focused on making good sounding points, rather than saying things that are actually convincing to anyone who does not already agree with us.
How is it possible to do that better?
Here is a suggested reading from one of my favorite SSC posts that is relevant to this (and also the post is now nearly ten years old :O).
When we meet up, we'll break into smaller groups of three or four people to discuss the subject, rotate the members of each group once or twice, and then we'll discuss the topic in the full group for a while.
EI look forward to seeing you all.
