Hi Everyone,

Our next meetup is fast approaching!

Time: October 6, 2pm - 5pm

Location: Museumkert (Backup: Sirius Teahaz)

Weather: The forecast predicts around 17°C and cloudy, but no rain. I think this is fine with coats for the last outdoor meetup of the year. If you think that will be too chilly, please respond to this email. If enough people are concerned, we will switch to our backup indoor venue, Sirius Teahaz.

Discussion Topic:

When and how it is possible (or desirable) to convince others to change their minds. We often spend hours pondering how best to articulate our perspectives, but somehow all this effort rarely makes people actually go, 'oh, huh, it turns out that you are right'. And this is especially the case for issues that we care the most about, and would (theoretically) like to convince people about the most.

To get us thinking ahead of the meetup, here's a related reading from Slate Star Codex: [Ethnic Tension and Meaningless Arguments.

During the meetup, we'll break into smaller groups to discuss the topic and then reconvene for a larger group discussion.

I'm looking forward to seeing everyone and welcoming our new members!

Tim
