Will there be an Open Class Nationals next year?
Nothing on the SSA calendar...

From the Site Selection report to SSA Board meeting last weekend.

"We expect an application for Uvalde – Contest in early August 2026"

I think that is meant to be Open Class.

Thanks Tony!
I do hope they get the application in before August.

I am looking at replacing the red carpet that is glued to the underside
of the cobra trailer top.  The carpet is de-laminating and starting to
come off.   Has anyone looked at using something like a marine Bunk
carpet for this ?

https://cudapowersports.com/collections/bunk-carpet/products/24-wide-red-boat-trailer-bunk-carpet?_pos=5&_fid=0c0f5845a&_ss=c

A original replacement at $43 a sq meter seems pricey, and the original
product doesn't seem to have been very good quality.

Also does anyone have any recommendation on how to remove the old stuff ?

Maybe posted to the wrong thread. This thread is about the 2026 Open Class Nationals. Anyway.....

I have had decent luck with adhesive carpet tiles. They are 12"x12", easily handled like puzzle pieces and easy to cut individual shapes. The adhesive can let go in hot weather, so I use construction adhesive (DAP or Liquid Nails) to back up the regular adhesive. As far as getting the old dried out foam off, I use a fine wire wheel in a drill or angle grinder. It's messy and gets everywhere so use safety glasses and a mask. Wear old clothes you don't care about.

I'll make two suggestions:
* If the fabric side is OK but the foam side is crumbling and releasing what I do is scrape out all the old foam from the fabric and surface of the loose part, use 3M adhesive remover to get the old adhesive off the surface then re-adhere the loose piece with contact adhesive.
* If the fabric side is messed up or detiorated so that it is hard and scratchy, I remove it, clean the the surface as above, and replace it with thin inexpensive carpet that does not have a foam backing I obtain at Home Depot.  The piece you remove is a good template for the new piece.

These suggesttions apply to all the padding in a Cobra trailer except for the wing leading edge saddles.  For wing saddles in addition to re-adhereing/replacing the carpet I get the foam backed strip from W&W they have specifically for this purpose and add it on top.

Yes I've replaced mine with "needled felt" it is wool and holds up real well easy to clean and is porous enough to not scratch our painted or gelcoated surfaces work well on the wing cradles and tail dolleys as well. It can be found in different sizes and thickness at Mcmaster-Carr and is  put on with a good spray on contact cement. I like 3m permanent or auto headliner adhesive handles the heat out west well.
