Thermal IR cameras are cheap now

I just noticed that you can get these on Amazon for just over $100. Has anyone tried soaring with one to locate areas of the ground that are warmer than surrounding parcels?
This might increase the chances of finding a thermal over those areas.
But we won't know for sure until someone tries it. Have they?

That is an interesting thought. I wonder how much the warm canopy plexiglass might get in the way though - but at least one could point the camera through the vent window. Would love to try at some pöint.

Deane, not that I am aware of. Most "high grade" portable units have a limited range, maybe a few hundred feet tops. A low $100 unit likely has a shorter range. Units used in SAR's and military cost a lot more.
