Vintage Brake Drum Brake mod

Hi All,

I was looking for feedback from anyone that has sent their drum brake to Vintage Brake to be overhauled/reworked....on how it improved the time between removing the brake and cleaning up the pads to restore braking power.  As its been discussed already, the standard drum brake works great for 1 or 2 stops after being cleaned and glazing removed...I'm wondering if after being sent to Vintage brakes that the brakes would work for 10...15...30 flights after annual.

David, I have not used them yet but have spoken to them at length. I used to do racing motorcycle drum brakes and discussed current brake material that would work for sailplanes. My feeling is that what they would supply would not only be an improvement over older material in friction but also retain braking over time without constant servicing.

I sent my wheel to Vintage Brake over the winter. On return and for a few flights after it had more braking force than ever before, but still not enough to put the glider on it's nose.

After a few dozen flights it has significantly degraded, but it is still better than before where it was homeopathic (only worked if you really believed).

My main problem is limited actuation power on the airbrake handle and fiddling with the pads is just papering over that.
