Starting on 1 October 2025, the voting for an open seat on the Rules Committee will commence.  There are 4 elected members of the rules committee that serve a 4 year term.  Every year one member of the committee is up for election/reelection. This year, Tony Condon's term is up.  He has offered to be considered for re-election for another 4 year term.  We also have Eric Redweik from Tucson AZ who would also like to be considered for the position.  Their resumes will be on the SSA election website.  All pilots on the Pilot Ranking List will receive an email link to this site on Wednesday.

Also on Wednesday, the 2025 Rules Survey will also be opened.  This survey addresses issues pilots have brought up to us during rules input meeting at contests and via emails to the rules committee.  It also allows pilots to voice issues with the rules so we can make them easier to understand or to change/eliminate any rule that pilots consider is unnecessary.  The Rules Committee will take the survey inputs from the pilots and compose proposed rule changes for the 2026 season.  You will again have an opportunity to voice your opinion on the proposed rule changes.  When the final rule changes have been written, they will again go out to the pilot group for comments.  Then these rule changes will go to the SSA Board of Directors for their approval.  Please take your time filling out this survey.  It is an important part of the rules process.

Sincerely,
Rich Owen
Rules Committee Member

Hi Rich,
I fly local contest at Greater Houston Soaring Association and we use WinScore for scoring.
There is only 1 handicap for the LAK 17cFES in WinScore and I assume it is for 15m but there is none for 18m.
I could not find any 18m Handicap anywhere else. Can you help me please adding it to WinScore? Do you know the 18m handicap?
Thanks a lot.
With regards
Uwe Prigge

That would be a Winscore issue, not SSA rules committee issue.

Ships don't get a handicap (in the US) until it appears in a contest. Once listed it's available to go into Winscore.

This is my understanding.

Not a Winscore issue.  Winscore pulls the latest handicap list from the SSA.org site and uses that information.  UH is in charge of that data.

I need to make a correction to my earlier post regarding the 2025 Rules Survey and the Rules Committee election.  Both of these will open at tomorrow morning, Friday 3 October.  An email will go out to all members on the Pilot Ranking list and a link will also be available on RAS Prime to enter the site.  Sign on with your SSA account for access to both documents.  So, when you are enjoying the first cup of coffee Friday, take a minute and take the survey and also vote for one the great pilots that want to represent you on the Rules Committee.  Sorry for the wrong information earlier.

Cheers,,

The LAK17C FES is listed in the Sports Class handicap list in 18M version with a handicap of .869 and ref weight of 1320 lb.
It may not pick from Winscore as listed. I will revise the descriptor to read LAK17C FES-18
