I'm looking for the best camera that can be mounted inside the cockpit to record both the pilot as well as a wing. Is there one camera that can do both or would i have to have two? What do you people recommend?

These days, the 360 cameras are your best solution. Either the Insta 360 X5 or the new DJI 360 camera. I’m a professional video producer and we use these almost all the time now instead of GoPro‘s, etc..The ability to reframe after the fact for whatever view you want is great. The apps make it easy to edit and export clips.

DJI products may not be available soon, if you think you want one of those I'd buy it ASAP.

Why might the DJI not be available soon?

Because DJI drones and components have been banned by the FCC.

The ban is actually on imports of all Chinese made drone and electrical components which will encompass their complete drones and cameras. Once the current stock in the USA is sold, it’ll be hard to get them. It’s going to affect a huge number of small and large businesses who rely on this technology, as there are no current alternatives (for drones particularly). Short sighted policy. I’m sure dji will come up with a work around in time.

The Akaso 360 is a good 360 camera and a lot more reasonable than the DJI and Insta's

Their 'Brave 7' Action cam is good too. I like it because it has a standard 1/4 camera mount and doesn't need all the clunky adapters that the others do.

Thanks, Ian, for pointing out the Aksaso 360. The Amazon price for this starts at less than $200. Look at the "Bundles" offered.
They also have 5 good review videos by external authors under the Video pictures. The battery life is about an hour but it
does come with 2 batteries. Resolution is HD, 4K up to 5.7K. This looks like a very nice product at a good price!

The Akaso 360 charges off a standard USB-C cable. I usually run mine off a large power brick and it will go as long as the powerbank ( or the SD card) lasts.

The alternative is a dashcam with two cameras.

The Innovv K5 is designed for motorcycles so it is rugged and waterproof.

Dual 4K cameras, up to 256GB storage.

I would go for latest Insta360 X5, or whatever is available. Option of framing shots afterward in editing software is worth video quality loss compared to phone camera or old school action cam.

Can we take this one step further?
Looking for a camera and "live" remote display option. Set up the camera to look out the back, with a display up front for the pilot to watch the glider. External mirrors always get bumped and moved so don't look aft where they should.

You can get rear view camera systems (for RV’s etc) that could work. I have a couple friends flying bush planes with big tires who have installed them out the front so they can see over the nose. They come with a screen. Some are wired, others are wireless.

The Akaso range ( 360 and action cams ) have an app that runs on a phone and allows remote control and display of streamed video.

360 camera can see back, and you can monitor back if this important for you.
With a little help it can also see rising air.
We are sensitive to picture big back ground distortion caused by warm rising air ( like over asphalt highway), but camera can spot small distortion pointing us to columns if rising air.
Strong organized downdrafts, maybe in wave conditions would also disturb background picture, so camera is also struggling with the focus.

If you want a permanent screen showing the rear camera angle in the cockpit, I wouldn’t go with a 360 camera or action camera using the wifi stream. You’ll eat through batteries on both phone and camera, plus you’ll get the screen timing out etc. It’s meant to preview, not for full time watching.

You can get something like this and plug it into a dash mounted screen, or if your tow plane has a glass panel (haha!) you can wire it direct into a Garmin G3X etc. https://a.co/d/bTk18QQ
