XCSoar log files

Hi all I have recently upgraded my android  phone and installed xcsoar 7.42 I have read the manual but am not getting a log file produced (that I can find) in the usual place of XCDATA/LOGS. The folder xcdata is there but no log folder or file after landing and exiting xcsoar. It worked fine on my old phone but is not working on my samsung galaxy S24+ any ideas. I havent tried?

Android charged the way applications can store files and it's confusing where they're now located. However XCsoar has a shortcut in the location menu, when you go to upload the file to OLC, click the "hamburger" menu button to left and scroll down to the bottom. See attached screenshot, XCsoar has an entry and once you click on that, you can see the traditional XCsoar file structure.

Yes thanks Elijah I found it. But it is interesting if I use a "file manager" I cannot locate it anywhere on the phone.

How do you like the brightness of the screen using XC Soar on the G24+?

 

Thanks.  My old Galaxy Note 4 was better than my current Google Pixel 6 for readability in sunlight, and the white case of the Note worked better without overheating than the black case of the Pixel phone.

Chris, Its pretty good its brighter than the A 53 I was using in the duo we had. Im only using it in the club planes for logging now but it is the best Ive seen in awhile!

I am a huge fan of WHITE cell phone cases, for that reason, and just easier to find on the floor of a car’s black interior.

Not sure how much the white case helps with heat, but it has to be something….

The white NOTE 4 I had never overheated, ever.

 Yeah, you really have to drill down to find the files. But try 

andriod->  data->org.xcsoar->files->logs

How about "no case at all"? I suspect many cases insulate the phone and prevent it from losing heat as rapidly as possible. Without a case, it's easy to improve cooling by mounting a tiny  12 volt   computer fan (30 or 40 mm square) behind to phone to blow air on the backside. Really helped with my iPhone 6+

Thanks Greg, thats probably where its at. When on my phone I go to Android/data it comes up with "due to restrictions this data may only be viewed on a computer"

I am referring to the case that the phone comes in, not a protective outer shell….

White is better than black for heat rejection.

Cliff,

If you have the standard RJ45 cable between your flarm and display (lx or other) and its set to the default 19200 baud, you can use this http://www.soartronic.net/products BT2 to split off traffic data over bluetooth to make traffic visible on XCSoar. This device intercepts the RJ45 and duplicates the NMEA traffic data wirelessly.

It adds a lot of context, allows for easy 2 finger panning, and shows 30s avg climb rates for traffic.

I am having the same problem Clif described. I am running Android 8 which is the latest version which can run on my Samsung Galaxy S7 without a jail break. 

It does not appear that I can access the file system on the device from a Windoz machine with Windoz 10 Pro using a USB cable.

I noticed that now when XCSoar starts it complains that permission is denied to load the Airspace File and indeed nothing in terms of terrain or other items was being shown during flight. 

Can you advise exactly where to find this upload menu which accesses the file system in XCSoar? I don't see that but then I don't upload files to OLC.

Also do you think there is any way to get access to the file system. My normal workflow was to use the Samsung file manager and then upload them to WeGlide. 

I am not sure that this old Galaxy S7 is going to do the job here anymore with these changes to Android.

Though now that I am thinking about it, I wonder if this is an incompatibility between XCSoar 7.42 running on Android 8. That version of Android would not seem to have these file folder no allowed issues.

So maybe XCSoar 7.42 is simply incompatible with Android 8 because they did not maintain compatibility?

OK, an update after much mucking around. 

It turns out the XCSoar 7.42 runs great on Android 8, however, the various files have moved to the new location under /Internal storage/Android/data/org.xcsoar/files. 

Your old files under /Internal storage/XCSoarData will need to be moved there. After they are moved they need to be re-chosen in XCSoar under Config/System/Site Files . 

The other thing I had done wrong is that when XCSoar is first launched you much allow it to access files on the device !

Hopefully this may help others avoid similar confusions.

Note: in XCsoar 7.44 the files moved again, to a subfolder of /Android/media rather than Android/data.  That is because later versions of Android disallow access to Android/data to anything other than the app itself, e.g., you couldn't use a file manager app to extract your flight logs.

Hi there - i have a problem with uploading a turnpoint file in the Xcsoar/Android/media - it looks if the file (cup) is in a qeue ? it is in the directory but i can not see (select) it in my xcsoar - i have the stefly 7.0 - any suggestions? tks !
