Anyone with direct experience flying the Genesis 2?

I have received some comments arguing that the short fuselage limits:
1) the pitch stability of the glider, rendering a bit of a "rocking horse", especially in turbulent conditions, and
2) the  effectiveness of slipping to lose altitude

Any comments on these two questions or other aspects that make the Genesis 2's flying characteristics stand out from "more conventional" gliders would be much appreciated!

Thx!

Matthias

I have only about 3 flights/10 hours in the ship. I rented one at Boulder a few times so I could fly with my son ( who had a '20). I noticed no pitch instability and thought the glide was as good as anything in standard class. Climb was close to - but not quite as good as - the 20. I did not try to slip it. Honestly, with modern GRP gliders and the prevalence of winglets (which don't tolerate slips well)  we rarely slip much anymore. The negatives that I do recall were 1) the gear was heavy to retract ( both the main and front gear retracted together) and 2) it was clumsy getting in and out of it (it went from firmly on the nose gear to high on the the tail when you got out).  I think Estrella also rents one but I have not flown that one.

It flies great! Pitch stability is just fine. Gust response is a bit weird in pitch, but really you won't notice it after the first hour. I don't remember any other quirks except Hi-Ho-Silver as Karl Streideck called it (can bounce between nose and tail during takeoff if tuggy is a bit over-enthusiastic or ground is really rough). Never tried (nor needed to) slip it.
Hope that helps!

The performance is hindered on the original glider by a poorly designed wing root. Climb is marginal, but run is OK. There is a wing root mod that a good fiberglass person can do to correct that issue. After the mod, the overall glider performance is very good. How much that mod costs I don't know.

Bob Salvo, one of our club member did a lot of that work https://www.deturbulator.org/Salvo.asp

I flew with Bob in my 304 while he was making this change.  Serving as his "reference" glider.  Before the change I could easily out climb him.  After he completed the changes we had equivalent climb.  It was an impressive improvement.  If i recal it was both a turbulator strip and a reprofile of the root.  Not a beginer project but Bob was a craftsman.  It was not a Dog prior to the change but it was interesting to see the improvement with my own eyes.

Did anyone else notice the Blanik control bridge in the ground equipment picture on W&W? Also, the asking price went from 35K to 60K.

Sorry I wasn’t clear. There’s a Blanik control bridge in the Genesis ground equipment on W&W right now. It’s the silver object at the lower left. I just thought it was odd.

I've owned one (well, three actually) and got about 1000 hours in the type. As earlier thread comments have stated, pitch stability is not an issue. Airbrakes are powerful enough that slipping doesn't really come into play either - however it will slip. It's Discus-equivalent performance. Rigging is easy with automatic hookups. No roomier cockpit to be found if that's a consideration. I find it a pleasant and enjoyable machine to fly with no bad habits.

Matthias,
I reureected the old Genesis group on GooGle. I have a shared file repository including a user accessible list of aircraft details and owners.
Would you like access?
