All,
What happened?
As of March 11, 2024 version 0.2.8 of the OGN image no longer received FLARM signals.
All FLARM devices switched over to a new protocol at the same time. To accomplish this on multiple software versions on different hardware devices, the plan has been in software for years. It was a coordinated, tested, effort by FLARM. The purpose of which seems to be to make the SoftRF "OGN Tracker" incompatible with FLARM devices.
This also had the side effect of making FLARM devices invisible to OGN receivers. Apparently FLARM notified the OGN team in March of 2024, a week before the change over. The OGN team was able to update their software to version 0.3.2.
A new image, version 0.3.2, is ready to be distributed to the 120 OGN receivers installed in the US.
The soonest this could have happened is now.
OGN trackers are still detected by the network of OGN receivers and will show up on websites.
What will happen?
What I will do
I still have remote access into some receivers. Over the next week I'll remote in and upgrade the version to 0.3.2
For those I don't have access to, see below.
What I need from you
Not all receivers have remote capability, either from firewall ports not open or they are offline.
Some options for upgrading (depending on your technical capability) are:
- Send you upgrade instructions
- Send you a new 0.3.2 .img file
- Send you a preconfigured 0.3.2 .img file
- Send you a preconfigured 0.3.2 sd card in the mail
- Send you a shipping label so you can send me the pi and I'll upgrade and return it to you
Thanks for your patience as I deal with this unexpected and uncommunicated turn of events. This update process should be completed shortly.
If anyone needs additional OGN receivers, please send me an email.
Thanks,
Davis Chappins
