As I had a need to set up Swarm again for the Raspberry Shake I took the opportunity to document the process and noted the steps in the attached PDF.

It's short, but hopefully provides some guidance on connecting to a local device or remotely to raspberryshakedata.com.

Please feel free to use as you would like. If anyone wants the files in an alternative format I would be happy to oblige.

No problem at all. I'd be flattered. Do you want me to forward the original files?

Have you had the layout not "stick" I have had some issues with this and followed your guide explicitly since I thought I may have missed something in my adult learning methodology. (Click and hope method?)  Anyway, I can save the layout, "All Shakes"  even overwrite any changes to it, but when I close Swarm and re-open, my saved layout is no longer there.
Thoughts?

Hi Kelly,

Sorry, I haven't seen the layout not 'stick' before. Admittedly I have only installed it from fresh three times (twice on Win 7 and once under Linux), so I might not have seen all possibilities. The last time I have used version 2.6.2 if that helps.

Best of luck.

Hi

Please find attached some additional material about SWARM trying complement the short guide of our friend d3noob.
I changed several times SWARM versión and thought minimize time to configure international seismic networks available and shakestation labels.

My english as you can see it is not  good and i´m not an expert in SWARM, but I hope the document could be useful. As d3noob short guide this is a free use material.

Document enclosed
  • Massive configuration of station map labels and international seismic networks in SWARM (word file)
  • Massive configuration of station map labels and international seismic networks in SWARM (pdf)
  • Labels (example text file containing some RS stations labels)

Hi Kelly:

Good evening.

I have noticed that if your kill the Swarm application from the terminal instead of hitting the little box, the layouts are not saved. This might be your issue. Try even File >> Exit.

Thanks Branden, nope, that didn't work either. Thought your answer might be the simplest.. will try uninstall/installing a new version.
Appreciate the feedback though..

Weird, my Desktop saved and reloaded the layout.. my laptop still recalcitrant to do so. Same version of Swarm, downloaded from the R-Shake. Desktop uses Win 10 Pro, Laptop Win 10 Home. OK.. just thought I would add this.. did download and re-install on my laptop, no glory there.

After reading reports here of trouble saving layouts, I did some testing with swarm. I've been able to duplicate the layout problem in Swarm 2.6.0, but not in 2.6.2.

I'm a little baffled by the behavior. None of the changes from 2.6.0 to 2.6.2 directly relate to layouts. If anyone can duplicate the problem in swarm 2.6.2, please send me the details.

Thanks for confirmation Branden.
Swarm gives a totally different perspective of the raspberry shakes

p.s. I noticed a small mistake in your useful link section in your reply, the #rasperryshake has the ' b ' missing

I am unable to save in 2.8.6 version also. Very frustrating to get it all set and then lose it.

OK I solved this issue on my Windows 10 machine having configuration saving issues.

I copied my Swarm Dir to the root of C drive: C:\swarm-2.8.6

I modified launch bat file swarm_console.bat line to point to that dir: java -Duser.country=US -Duser.language=us -jar C:\swarm-2.8.6\lib\Swarm.jar %*

I did a CD to that dir  C:\swarm-2.8.6

Ran C:\swarm-2.8.6\swarm_console.bat

When I saved my Layout a new config file was created in the Layouts directory. My saved layout was called ShakeLocal and so the file was ShakeLocal.config.
