We work in the field of theoretical and computational chemistry, employing full quantum mechanical methods such as density functional theory (DFT) to understand processes occurring in Inorganic systems. The effective means for small molecule activation using inorganic complexes, new insights into mechanisms for organometallic catalysts, and the design of new systems that can exhibit metal-ligand cooperativity are some of the problems that we are currently interested in finding answers to. Our group also does work in developing methods for doing effective stochastic simulations of chemical systems. We also started Ab Initio molecular dynamics with the help of newly developed nanoreactor approach!!

We are mostly interested in functional inorganic materials that are vital to createinnovative science and technology and thereby to address the issues of sustainable energy, healthcare and a clean environment.(1) Functional inorganic materials based on polyoxometalates (POMs),basic metal carboxylates (trinuclear metal oxo clusters), metal organicframeworks (MOFs) and metal-dithiolene coordination complexes.(2) The molecular functions include sensing toxic substances / molecularrecognition (referring health care), electrocatalytic water oxidation to oxygen,electrocatalytic water reduction to hydrogen (referring sustainable energy), aerialCO2 fixation (environmental care) and its use in organic synthesis, solid stateproton conduction and electrocatalyic oxygen reduction (in the context of fuel cell,energy issue). The synthesized materials also exhibit chiral separation,electrocatalytic proton reduction to molecular hydrogen, reversible syn-antiisomerization in the solid state (molecular machine) and organic functionalization(of industrial importance).(3) Exploring the solid-state properties of hybrid materials prepared by functionalization of inorganic complexes with different organic moieties. Developing new class of dithiolene materials exhibiting near IR absorption,conducting and NLO properties. Crystalline state transformations focusing gas-solid, gas-liquid reactions and light induced conversions. Another area, we are involved, is to study the supramolcular aspects of the molecular assemblies built from different organic and inorganic precursors. (4) we are also involved in the crystal engineering of Metal-Organic Frameworks in terms of design,synthesis, self-assembly and exploring the functional potential applications in the fields of adsorption,magnetic properties etc.

Analytical chemistry is an important and applied experimental field of science that has gained immense importance in recent years because of its practical utility. It is the branch of science that employs different instruments and methods for the collection, separation, identification, and quantification of various organic, inorganic, and biological molecules. Analytical chemistry is based not only on chemistry but also on other disciplines such as biology, physics, pharmaceutical, and many fields of technology. This chapter provides information pertinent to basic and important concepts of chemical characterization, that is, qualitative and quantitative analysis, different analytical techniques, and instruments employed for analysis along with their advantages and disadvantages. Analytical techniques such as chromatographic, titrimetric, spectroscopic, electrophoretic, diffraction, and electrochemical methods are used for the quantitative and qualitative analysis of compounds. Analysis of various organic, inorganic, or biochemical compounds is carried out on a specific instrument, and these instruments work on a specific principle. Data obtained from their instrumental techniques help in determining the chemical composition, quantity, and structure of various unknown molecules. Recent developments in automation of analytical instruments have helped the scientific community across the globe in numerous ways and also accelerated the advancement of analytical chemistry techniques.
