PrologueThe Śrī Devī Mahatmyaṃ, an abstract from Mārkaṇḍeya Purāṇa, is a grand compilation of a war between good and evil, the fight between Goddess Durgā and the demonic asura Mahiṣāsurā. Spiritually, this applies to the removal of all ills, such as lust, greed, anger, laziness, constant wavering of mind, etc. impacting our spiritual ascension. The Śrī Devī Mahatmyaṃ, also called Caṇḍī Pāṭha or Durgā Saptaśati, consists of 700 verses or ślokas, each of which is considered very sacred and has a material and spiritual purpose associated with it. One who recites the entire 700 verses periodically, gains immense happiness and finally gains eligibility and inclination towards self-realization. In total, the Śrī Devī Mahatmyaṃ is an adulation of the Divine Feminine. It is an outpouring of selfless devotion and surrender to the Divine Mother, seen as a representation of the infinite and everlasting energy and bliss.
The word kujikā, refers to the One who has the keys to unlock the mystic secrets of the Creation. It is therefore of great and immense value, to recite this stotram on its own and also as a pre-requisite for the sacred 700 verses of Śrī Devī Mahatmyaṃ. A mere recitation is not sufficient, but fully comprehending the meaning and performing the sādhana, will definitely provide fruitful results.
There are primarily two variations of the Stotram specified in many books. One of them ends at verse 13 itself. The other goes has an additional śloka. Both versions have been clubbed in this document and the smaller version has been mentioned in square brackets [] at the verses 12 and 13.
Lord Śiva spoke:- My dear Devi, Please listen very attentively. The Siddha Kujikā stotram(hymn) is highly revered and considered very auspicious and a pre-requisite for the seven hundred ślokas/hymns of Śrī Durga/Caṇḍī saptaśati as well as the Śrī Caṇḍī mantra japa. The fructification of the 700 hymns becomes possible, only when this stotram is recited prior.
Oh my Dear Parvati! Please hide it from your own Creation and do not disclose this most secretive stotram to any undeserving persons. Please be aware that this stotram is extremely effective for annihilation (māraṇaṃ), mesmerization (mohanaṃ), attraction (vaśyaṃ), blocking (stambhanaṃ) and dissension/dispersal (uccāṭana). The Caṇḍī Pāṭha is extremely effective with the recitation of this Siddha Kujikā stotram.
Pieced together, the mantra aim̐ hrīm̐ klīm̐ cāmuṇḍāyai vicce would help us gain all worldly and spiritual knowledge, manifest our desires, lead a moralistic path and finally attain self-realization and liberation.
The mantra om̐ is Śabda Brahman and is the sound of the manifested Super consciousness. It represents auspiciousness, removes all impurities and is generally the preceding mantra for all major auspicious mantras.
Pieced together, we get the meaning of this mantra, May the Divine Mother Śrī Caṇḍī, Who's the manifested Dynamic Super consciousness, usher in auspiciousness and cleanse us of all impurities, protect us eternally from all enemies internal and external, fulfill all our wishes and desires and infuse spirituality, morality and help us realize life's true purpose. May She illuminate us with all round knowledge, expand our consciousness, remove attachments, dualities, balance our emotions and integrate us into the Whole of the Creation.
Salutations to the mighty and terrifying One, who has destroyed the pride of the most powerful demonic celestial asuras Madhu and Kaiṭabha with Her side glance, and helped Lord Viṣṇu slay them. Madhu and Kaiṭabha represent intoxicated pride and ego, as well as a negative and annoying attitude that comes from it, which can completely vanish by Her side glance and the grace that emanates from it, leading to the kuṇḍalini activation and the true experience of the expansion of consciousness. Salutations to the One who has vanquished the asura Mahiṣā, who represents the stubbornness to change and evolve on the right path.
Salutations to the One, who has vanquished the asuras Śumbha and Niśumbha. The twins Śumbha and Niśumbha represent our tendency to stick to the same old routine of living and leading life on a day to day in the material world, Staying in fear and without considering to make the step and embarking on the right spiritual journey. She gives the nudge in Her own ways as Mahāmāyā and releases us from all the karma and bondage, cause and effect.
She manifests as Goddess Saraswati, the Śakti of Lord Brahma, the Creator and assists in the task of Creation with the seed/bīja mantra aim̐. She also manifests as Goddess Lakṣmī, the Śakti of Lord Viṣṇu, the Preserver/Sustainer and helps in maintaining and sustaining the Creation with the seed/bīja mantra hrīm̐. She goes further and manifests as Goddess Pārvati, the consort of Rudra the Destroyer and helps in keeping the time and balance of Creation, in tune with karma, via the seed/bīja mantra klīm̐. Salutations to Her who is the cause and effect of all bīja-s.
The Divine Mother manifests as Pārvati, the consort of Lord Śiva to manifest and protect auspiciousness and the wealth of Creation. She manifests as Goddess Sarasvati to impact the power of speech and spread all knowledge to the entire Creation. She manifests as Goddess Kāli to transform the Creation and impart spirituality and lift the veil of māyā, the cosmic illusion that binds us to the Creation. She manifests as Goddess Mahālakṣmī to ensure prosperity and continuity for all Creation.
The Divine Mother envelops an armor of protection against all disturbances, internal and external through the hum̐ bīja. She hastens the rapid expansion of consciousness with the jam̐ bīja and crushes all karma and hence is jambhanādinī (Vārāhī). Through the bīja-s bhrām̐ bhrīm̐ bhrūm̐ She vigorously seeds the consciousness within life forms and matter, amongst the entire Creation as Bhadra and ensures its sustenance as Bhavani and destruction as Bhairavi.
For the devotee/sādhakās, the mātṛkā-s provide all types of siddhis or powers to manifest anything as well to progress in all spheres of life and beyond. The life-infusing prāṇa pratiṣṭha and the associated bhūta lipi is referenced in this verse/śloka.
May the Divine Mother manifested as Goddess Pārvatī, firmly and fully, enhance our will-power and lead us towards the expansion of our consciousness and takes us towards self-realization. May the Divine Mother manifested as Khecarī move swiftly towards us and sever all the karmic bonds and bind us permanently in Her embrace and grant us everlasting self-realization.
The Divine Mother slashes the ego and dispels the illusion of māyā and takes us in Her embrace and leads us to Śiva, completing the very purpose of life and freeing us from the cycle of births and death. Salutations to the Divine Mother Kujikā, the One who fully unlocks every secret that lies in the Creation, and reveals Her true nature to us and fills us with complete bliss.
This Kujikā stotram is for invoking and stirring the Śrī Caṇḍī Navākṣarī Mantra, to obtain the complete grace of the Divine Mother. This highly coveted stotram should not be revealed to all and sundry and must especially be kept away from those who lack faith. Please keep this as a highly guarded secret, my Dear Pārvati, says Lord Śiva.
Dear Devī! One who does not recite this most sacred and coveted Śrī Siddha Kujikā Stotram, prior to reading the Śrī Durgā Saptaśati, gains no merit or siddhis(magical powers and accomplishments) from the 700 verses, just like a person crying in the middle of a dense forest.
Many thanks to the thorough review, criticism and updates from Mr. C.M., the tantric stalwart Ruslan and Santosh as well as Mr. Ravi. This article is written by Krishna Vallapareddy and he can be contacted at

Many thanks for Giving Kunjika stotra with meanings. It's Divine Mother's grace to get this gift in Navaratri. Hope this stotra can be recited alone, if one doesnt get time to recite entire Sapta Sahati.
It can be recited on it's own. An initiation is suggested, if the desire is to proceed towards the Śrī Caṇḍī Navākṣarī mantra sādhana. More than anything else, the love towards the Divine Mother is most important and everything else is secondary.
Special thanks Krishnaji as I have read this article many many number of times for knowing the meaning of the beejas in the stotram, that helped me a lot while reciting the stotram with focusing/concentrating much on the beejas with meaning(not to get another thoughts ) I never seen any other articles having this detailed deeper meaning of each beeja and word in the stotram. That's the greatness of Manblunder. Thank you Krishnaji once again.
It is a little-known fact that Lord Rama's Kula Devata is Divine Mother Guhyakālī. But wouldn't it be the Divine Mother Durgā? The answer to this question is that the complete form of Durgā is Guhyakālī. How can I prove this to the readers of this site? The incomplete form of Durgā is called Caṇḍī and the Navārṇa Mantra. The complete form of Durgā is called Pūrṇacaṇḍī. Who is Pūrṇacaṇḍī? Divine Mother Pūrṇacaṇḍī is called Siddhilakṣmī with the Navākṣarī Mahāvidyā: om̐ hrīm̐ hūm̐ hām̐ phrem̐ kṣrom̐ krom̐ namaḥ. Who is Siddhilakṣmī? She is also called Mūlapratyaṅgirā. Who is Mūlapratyaṅgirā? Divine Mother Mūlapratyaṅgirā is called Mahācaṇḍayogeśvari. But who is Mahācaṇḍayogeśvari? She is Bhagavati Guhyakālī herself. Divine Mother Tripurasundari Parābhaṭṭārikā is also present in Siddhilakṣmī. Divine Mother Siddhilakṣmī is the meeting point and combination of the powers of Guhyakālī, Durgā, Pratyaṅgirā and Tripurasundari. She is very terrible but hides it. Divine Mother Durgā is a very frequent subject among Guhyakālī devotees. The power set in motion with Śrī Siddhakujikā Stotram is Guhyakālī. Divine Mother Durgā carries the power of Guhyakālī secretly with her, even in forms that raise no suspicion of it. Divine Mother Devi is difficult to understand, but I tried my best to try to explain it in words.
