Bulletin Board Ideas

Ok, I am a very creative person, and I love to make bulletin boards
that truly mean something to my residents. However, this month, I am
stumped as to what to do. I have great ideas for November and December
because they can really be related to something, but I do not know
what I could do for October. Ideas anyone? Please :)

haha just go and make a bulliten board on the health issues of
halloween candy. Have a wide spread on how much sugar each has as well
as trans fat and carbohydrates. If you are feeling even more creative
than that have a small section on teeth care and halitosis... Just a
thought!

i'm at a loss for what to do with my bulletin board... i'm not very
creative. i'm thinking something along the lines of the holidays but
that isn't exactly helpful to the students. i dunno. suggestions would
be cool.

This idea is more of a semester-long idea ... on the door of my
kitchen, I am going to cut out a refrigerator out of butcher paper and
tape it on the door. The girls will be able to either post their good
grades or other accomplishments or even write it on the paper
directly. It will give the floor an "at-home" feel.

I love doing holiday themes! You can always tie them in with school if
you just find out what's going on on campus that month and make a list
of events that residents might be interested in. I don't think
bulletin boards should necessarily ALAWAYS be 100% school related.
People get tired of that and sometimes just want to see something fun!
For this month I posted some school events, but I also put up a list
of horror movies showing on AMC. I think it kills the monotony and
poeple are more likely to look at the actual school related topics if
there is more than JUST academic stuff.

elections are coming up you can always put up articles regarding the
candidates. find a common interest in your community like for guys
football is the most obvious thing. try to put discussion or debate
forums on the bulletin board. also health related and school related
issues always look good on the bulletin board.

LIst different coustume ideas on your bulletin board. Also list
places where they can get costumes, including thrift stores. SOme
examples include: Time Warp, Good Will on college, Here Today Gone
TOmorrow... you get the point.

if you're stumped on what to do for bulletin boards you should check
out the website www.residentassistant.com they have some pretty good
ideas on different things to do as an RA. If that doesn't help you can
always make your bulletin board about fun things to do in baton rouge
for halloween. i know that the baton rouge city park has cool things
going on and so does the 13th Gate, the haunted house.

For the month of November, my bulletin board will focus on scheduling
for next semester and how to decode a course listing from the General
Catalog. Many of the 1st year students don't know how to know what
classes to take while in college. On the board, I will give the basics
of scheduling with descriptions of the necessary tools: degree audit,
recommended path, General Catalog, etc.

Is it just me or does it feel like we just put up our bullentin boards
for October and we already changed them for November? It seems like I
just threw a lot of info on a board and I've already had to change it.
Would it make more sense to have the boards up for a month and a half?
Then we would have them up from August to the end of September, then a
new one for October and not until half way through November would we
change it again. Then it would be the last change for the semester. I
know in Blake our bulletin board schedule got changed because of the
hurricane, however next semester we will have to do January, February,
March, and April/May bulletin boards at least....I just don't see how
the residents can get so much out of one extra bulletin board that
takes a good deal of effort to gather our materials, take down the old
stuff and put up the new stuff.
