Love this exchange with my other google group....the pre-story is that Carmike is being bought by AMC, making it the largest holder of movie screens in the country.  Well over of US screens will be owned by the Chinese....

If it wasn't the Justice Department someone needed to stir it up. In fact it is curious that there is no government challenge because not only does it potentially make them a predatory circuit but they are owned by the Chinese...a Communist company owning an American cinema group.  Will censorship come into play at some point?

Are you currently or have you ever shown a Communist movie?  Or the other way around...a Capitalist movie.

There is no way Trump is going to allow this sale.  No effing way.

BL&S has done many shows of “Alexander Nevsky”  and “Scenes from Ivan the Terrible” with an full symphony orchestra and chorus performing the Prokofiev score live. Doesn’t get more communist than that.

And, it was on film, using a Soviet print, without subtitles. Those were projected on a separate screen. In at least one case, we locked three projection systems together and ran on three screens at the same time.

Back in the 80’s when I was a projectionist the AFI was preparing to do a series on Soviet cinema. I got stuck building and screening many of the films they were previewing. Lots of tender love stories between boys and hydro-electric power plants, as I recall.

Carmike should have been swatted down years ago for questionable practices. In the early 80’s they got together with the other chains in the state and divided up the territories. Virtually overnight Carmike had everything in Montgomery. Birmingham, Mobile and Huntsville became singe operator cities. The Reagan Justice Dept really wasn’t interested in stopping monopolistic practices, and the rest is history.

You’re right John, but . . . Since Trump just left the state of Michigan victoriously, we know, from very inside information, that Trump will be buying both Carmike and AMC, primarily as an outlet for Trump Water, Trump Wine, the Trump Magazine (which will add a HUGE show business gossip section) and, in a direct attack on Alamo Drafthouse, a gourmet Trump Steak Supper Cinema. 73% of all Trump Cinemas (formerly AMC/Carmike) will be Trump Steak Supper Cinemas and will feature the richly marbled Trump Steaks and Idaho’s best baked potatoes.  However, we also understand that after last night’s Idaho disloyalty, that a Mississippi Rice Pilaf may replace baked potatoes. We also understand (because of the disloyalty of the Lyin’ Ted state) that all AMC and Carmike theaters located in Texas will be sold to United Artist, as UA contemplates regaining dominance nation-wide.

Wait till the Chinese buy Paramount or WB. Ip Man could be the hero of MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 8, or Steven Chow could reboot HARRY POTTER: WHEN HOGWARTS GOT HOG WARTS; or. RIDE THIS BROOMSTICK.
