Hi, I've just built kind of my dream 2008 PC and I've installed XP and Vista on it. I've gotten the XP side of things working fine, but I can't for the life of me get Windows Update to work on Vista. I've tried a few YouTube tutorials, but none seem to work, but feel free to post some of the easy answers in case I missed something.
EDIT: I tried updating my Ethernet driver off of the Microsoft Update website, and that didn't work, though the driver I downloaded was from 2011, but it seems that Intel isn't carrying any Vista drivers for any of their Ethernet products anymore. If anyone has an archive of an updated driver, that would be great.
EDIT 2: archive.org is a great website. Using some link copying I found a link for the Vista driver for this Ethernet controller, and while updating the driver still didn't fix the issue, I'll still post the link for archival purposes.
Yes , get the SHA-2 Update from Server 2008 SP2 , but that is only one part of it , since its probably against forum rules i cannot say more but you can do your research. I did get it to work though on my end.
So SIW2, you will only help new member TheRobster5555 if he creates an account at Blithering Blogspot where you are considered a guru? The world no longer needs multiple Windows Vista forums, and most of the advanced users are here at MSFN, so please decide where your loyalties lie.
I can confirm that the servers are back online, though I've installed an update rollup pack created by someone, and that seems to have gotten everything covered. The only thing that windows update found was the driver for the monitor. Thanks for all the help though!
A possible error that you might encounter is Windows Update error, code 80244019. This states that there was a problem checking for updates and that Windows could not search for new updates. This can occur when the Windows Update service fails to connect to the Windows server, so it is a Windows server problem or down to your computer system and configuration.
I bought a Dell Latitude D531 one year ago. Due to an urgent trouble on my WIFI connection I decided to reinstall my Vista Business OS. But I had no CD. So I've formated and re-install XP but I keep the recovery partition for later Vista install. But now that I want to install it I don't know how I can do.
Copy your important txt documents to a memory stick ($10 for a 2 Gig stick). Also copy the "Favorites" folder for Internet Explorer (in the user/yourname folder) and important pictures and icons. If you have a website upload the actual web file from your web writer program to the website for safe storage with an FTP program, so you can download and open it when you reinstall your web writing program.
You will be left with some programs in the "Program Files" folder. Some will actually run when you restart a few times, but many will disappear as you restart. So you will have to reinstall your programs.

You should have an OS reinstallation disk (i.e., the Windows disk), the Dell Drivers & Utilties (aka Resource) CD, at least one Dell Applications CD, and a disk for any third party software you ordered with the system (such as MS Office or a full version of Roxio). The Windows disk is for a clean install of Windows with nothing extra, and is not a recovery CD as it does not load the Dell factory image.
Hi, I own a small business where I fix dell PC's all day every day. I never use the recovery partition for a number of reasons. The main reason is I dont want to recovery the bloatware. Instead I recommend doing whatever it takes to get an OEM Windows Recovery Disk. I know that Dell offers them to people who are still under warranty. If you arent under warranty and you lost or damaged your disk, you can actually buy a backup replacement copy of your windows recovery disk at: www.oemsoftwaresource.com . Take your recovery disk, and put it into you disk drive. Press F12 during bootup and follow the prompts to reinstall windows. Good luck on getting your PC up and going again! Anthony
From what Larry wrote & clicking on his link for replacement disks...if I buy the Dell I'm considering...I already know it doesn't include the OS CD, Dell will send me that disk with the others? Is that true?
Hi, ive have also been a dell VAR (value added reseller) for a few years now, I know that every computer i have ever sold came with the OS Disc. If best buy or these companies dont include the OS cd then they are thieves. That means they take your property out of the box and then sell it to you. How dispicable.
Im not sure because I havent bought Dell from Best Buy, I do know that it is in Best Buy's Interest to sell you a windows vista recovery disk, so I wouldnt be surprised if they remove it. But im not sure. So if you buy from them, check the box first to see if the OS disk is in there. And could you let me know what you find out? Thank you, Anthony
Today we bought the Dell Studio 17 at Best Buy...I even had them call me from online shopping site & they confirmed no OS CD...but guess what! You guys are exactly right, the CD is in the box. It is Windows Vista Home Premium 64bit SP1...that sounds right to me.
Did anyone figure out the F8 menu? I tried doing the resintall this way but when I select "Repair My Computer" nothing happens and the computer just starts up normally and goes to the desktop. I don't know what to do anymore. :(
The image reinstallation uses the information in the Restore D drive. It's odd that you have a Restore Z drive, unless it is on a disk. Also even stranger that you do not get an image reintallation screen.
Origin recently updated the OS requirements, and now Windows Vista is no longer supported. You will need Windows 7, Windows 8/8.1 or Windows 10 to run Origin.
I think it has something to do with Origin now requiring Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable 2013, which isn't compatible with older versions of Windows.
3 days ago I had to reload my operating system then after all the updates I loaded origin and downloaded my games. after a glitch I reloaded again today march 18 2016 and I am unable to load origin. Says compatable with windows 7 and up. SO are they going to refund the money for my games Ive purchased? I play battlefield 2142 and if they bail on up with this issue how can we trust them in the future with other game purchases?
I had to do a factory reset of my computer. I have Vista as well. I tried putting all my old program files/data back on my computer but Origin says it's not running when it is. That new slim version of Origin won't run for me. Is there an older version of Origin for people on Vista? Or can we just no longer play our games?? This is crazy.
I restored my pc and had to reinstall Origin. After getting the "Slim" version I initially couldn't get it to install. Next day after a breath I went to the icon clicked properties and discovered it was being blocked. Clicked unblock and it installed like a dream. I hadn't added any spyware or antivirus stuff back yet I went straight to Origin first and my pc still blocked it. But unchecking the square fixed it. NOW I'll install my protection
Have you downloaded the origin slim version yet? If not download it and you should be fine. If you have and can't open it (which was MY problem) click properties and see if your PC is blocking it. It's not the firewall or antivirus it just automatically blocks it until you uncheck the square. Should work after that
What caught our eye on this dream home was the roof the construction team installed.
