Subject: URGENT: We need you to take action on more anti-life bills
Dear Jane,
I have another update regarding the anti-life bills in Springfield we've been following.
Since we last reached out, two additional concerning bills have come into focus—HB 4966 and HB 5295—bringing the total to five bills that urgently need your attention in the State Senate.
In addition to HB 5408, HB 4839, and HB 4834, these new bills raise serious concerns about expanding abortion access among vulnerable populations and shielding critical medical information from parents and physicians. With all five bills moving, the need for constituent outreach has only intensified.
Here’s a quick breakdown of what’s at stake:
HB 4834 – This bill would expand access to abortion-related drugs in ways that weaken longstanding safety standards and oversight. By loosening safeguards around how these drugs are prescribed and distributed, it increases the risk of complications going unreported and puts women’s health at greater risk—while reducing accountability for providers.
HB 4839 – This legislation would eliminate the requirement for fetal death certificates in certain miscarriage situations, further removing legal recognition of unborn children. It not only diminishes the humanity of these children, but also weakens the state’s ability to treat the loss of a pregnant woman and her unborn baby as a double tragedy under the law.
HB 5408 – This bill would direct additional state resources toward expanding abortion access, further entrenching Illinois as a destination for abortion services. At a time when many families are struggling, it raises serious concerns about how taxpayer dollars are being prioritized and used.
HB 4966 – This proposal would establish so-called “rights” to abortion for minors in state custody, allowing vulnerable youth under DCFS to obtain abortions with reduced involvement from parents or trusted adults. Instead of strengthening protections, it risks isolating these children at a critical moment and opens the door to coercion and lack of informed consent.
HB 5295 – This bill would allow abortion procedures to be separated from a patient’s general medical record, meaning parents and even primary care physicians could be kept in the dark—especially in cases involving minors and young women. By prioritizing secrecy over transparency, it undermines continuity of care and raises serious concerns about both patient safety and accountability.
That’s why we’re asking you to take action today.
If you’ve already contacted your senator about the first three bills—thank you.
Now, we’re asking you to complete the full set by sending messages on HB 4966 and HB 5295 as well.
We’ve made this quick and simple. Using the links below, you can send a pre-written message to your State Senator in just a few minutes:
- Tell Your State Senator to Oppose HB 4834
- Tell Your State Senator to Oppose HB 4839
- Tell Your State Senator to Oppose HB 5408
- Tell Your State Senator to Oppose HB 4966
- Tell Your State Senator to Oppose HB 5295
This will only take about 3 minutes.
Moments like this matter. When senators hear from a strong number of constituents in a short window, it can shape how they approach these votes.
Thank you again for staying engaged and taking action when it counts most.
By His Mercy,
Mary Kate Zander
